Mini-HowTo
Super cheap FrSky receiver antenna

Yes I know they are cheap to buy readu made but DIY is fun.

First you buy these http://www.ebay.com/itm/321739149292...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. Each cable gives two 15cm antennas (slightly longer than D4R-II I think).

You have broken one or two antennas

Measure the length of the active part of the antenna if one is uncut, or look at this picture

Bend one cable and cut it in two equal lengths.

With a very sharp hobby knife, aim at 40mm from the "free" end and press the knife gently against the cable while rolling it one revolution with your fingertips at the connector end. If you apply too much pressure with your knife it's easy to cut too deep and into the dielectric. Pull the sheathing off, exposing the shielding copper braid.

Push back the shielding braid so it's diameter expands

Cut the shielding braid where sheathing ends with a side cutter.

Now cut the active part down to the exact length and you are done!

Make many more at the same time and bring to an RC event to share

The stripped part is the actual antenna. The antenna length decides which frequency it's appropriate for. You can either calculate the length yourself quite easily or just look at what FrSky them self chose to use, like I did.

Should be 30-31mm for 2.4GHz.

To calculate the 'exact' length you would need to know the velocity factor of the wire, the insulation on it does have an effect.

The wires on my Frsjy antennas are 33mm long.

Interesting, but how in the world are you damaging so many antennas? I've never had one get damaged and I have twenty receivers.

Trees, branches, propellers... Just landing upside down a lot makes it eventually weaken where it's bent.
