Thing is, this thing should fly fine OUT OF THE BOX. All my other PZ planes, including my full size PZ Spitfire Mk IX fly fine and CG is spot on. I either got a lemon or this thing is very poorly designed.

This is true. You spend the money and it should fly like my other PZ planes. This is an expensive static model IMHO.

a shame you would give up on a pz plane. there are several planes out there that take a lot more than a simple cog check to get up in the air.

Well I added some weight to get the CG moved. Going to test fly tomorrow.

How did you add weight to move CoG and keep the plane clean? I was thinking to add weight in the cowl of the battery cover but I am afraid it won't be enough. Did you open the plane?

I taped a nickel on top of the nose just behind the prop & my spit flies really great now. Out of the box it was way tail heavy & very difficult to fly.

Pierre,

Instead of installing dead weight up front, go with a Hyp (1S) 180 and add some flight time and power while correcting the cg.
They fit well under the cowling on the Spit with a bit of mod work.
I've received many positive flight reports on the Spitfire/Hyp (1S) 180 combo.

Walt posted a nice pic over in the SX motor thread of his P-51.

that's a thought. i only ROGed it twice (maiden flights) and don't recall any tail heavy behavior with the gear on.

I opened it up and glued 6 .177 air gun lead pellets inside the space around the nose.

In order for it to be a taildragger the gear must be ahead of the CG so removing it will make the plane more tailheavy

Yes, but I was wondering if the folks commenting about it being tail heavy were flying without the gear (which would make it, DUH, tail heavy).

Yeah, but it does so much better in the air without the gear. Not to mention, I land on a grass strip so the ultra-small wheels are no good to me anyway.
