Just starting my Fun Cub build ... Took a bit longer than expected to finish and maiden the XB-70 and YF-23.
Ordered the Fun Cub accessory kit and floor stiffner kit from MorganMill RC. http://morganmill.com/RC/FunCub_Parts.html Ordered online on Sept 13, parts arrived cross country today Sept 15th ! Couldn't ask for better than that. Very impressed with the product and service. Already have landing gear from cublandinggear.com. Curious how different Zacki CA is from Zap medium CA, so I bought a bottle with my last Multiplex radio gear order. Will give it a try and see. Used some of my bride's 50% off coupons from Michael's and AC Moore, so I think I have the paint all set ... Still working on a scheme and what to paint before assembly rather than after. Still not sure if I will install my Multiplex lighting kit on the Cub (shown on box). Trying to work out running wire up to top of rudder without routing it on the outside. Might try drilling up thru rudder for wire.... Hoping to have this one built before the flying season ends..... |

Itc - Believe me, I understand taking a bit longer than expected! It sounds as if your off to a good start! Relax, enjoy the build, and if you get stuck, this is the best place to ask questions! As far as the lighting - Start the 'tunnel' down the vertical fin with a drill (make sure it's straight), then take a length of brass or aluminum tubing the same size as your drill and file some teeth in one end, you can then hand twist it into the foam using your drilled hole as a guide to complete the tunnel! - Best of luck on your build! ~ Robin

Thanks.
I am planning on using the Fun Cub as a test bed for some new Multiplex 2.4GHz telemetry sensors (battery voltage, current and capacity in real time) in addition to their AntiSpark module and magnetic / LED professional safety switch. And of course to be a fun plane to just fly, maybe off skis. Amazing how things have changed in RC since the 70's. My wife laughed the first time she saw me working on a "foamie" rather than a traditional construction plane! Also going to try a 3 blade prop to see if it helps with the reported resonance/ vibration. Purchased Multiplex power kit. |

Search previous posts on this thread and YouTube clips for the Fun Cub. It is generally recognised as an ideal upgrade. I bought a Fun Cub recently and it had a metal mount not a plastic mount. If you are planning on buying a kit check what mount comes with it. If you already have a kit with a plastic motor mount and want to fit a metal mount send me a PM. I may be able to help you out. If yours comes with plastic, it was produced before the change over. Ron |
