My old Speedo didn't come with the velcro.. I just taped the wings together with clear packing tape.
Apart from replacing 1 piece of tape as it got a bit of dirt under it.. I have never had a problem with the wings coming apart.
I've had this Speedo for 4 years now and no problems.

I used the same tape method on a DLG glider I bought from the same manufacturer and it was great. It handled the stress of a DLG launch quite well.

The only thing with the tape is to make sure you check it once in a while for splits if you have a less than perfect arrival and replace it.

But.. the velcro is a great idea if your landings are not as smooth as you would like.

I used the Velcro for the Rx and battery.

Hi All,

I attended the Katie Tribute at Torrey Pines last weekend and got re-turned on to slope flying. I flew a Katie II and a V-Tail without the prop, and I also have a Coyote which I have not flown yet. I was really impressed with the smaller aerobatic slopers and after watching a Mini Blade fly, I thought I might get one of those even though somewhat pricey. Then I stumbled upon the Speedo, and at 1/4 the price, I thought I might give it a try.

How does the Speedo compare? I don't expect the same level of performance, but I think it would fit what I want to do.

Now I will start reading the rest of this thread.

Thank You,

Once you by a speedo you'll never go back. They are small, cheap, and the best bang for buck out there.
I've not flown those other models you mentioned but I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks Gwalch, I told my brother about the Speedo (he also was really interested in the Mini Blade after seeing it fly) and after a quick look he placed an order. I will order mine shortly.

Servo Question

I have a pair of Airtronics 94800 5 gram digital servos. I am planning on adding rudder and I read somewhere on a Speedo thread that a HXT 500 was being used for elevator and the 94800 has same specs. Since I need two servos in a very small space, I thought I would use the 94800s for elevator and rudder or, if that is not a good idea I could use a 94800 for rudder and a Tower Pro 9 gram for elevator. I will use the spring system.

Thanks,

SpadCat

OK after some reading in the other thread, I found several references to 5 gram servos being used

Use the highest resolution and best centering on arm inner hole for the elevator, very sensitive control needed.

Quick release mod

Here's a question for anyone still out there I did a quick release mod on my HK Deamon (Raptor) as you can see from the attached photos. Any thoughts if this would work with the Speedy? You can still nip the nylon bolts down by rotating the R clips but it does save having to remove the whole bolt and makes it a tool less operation

Hi WS
the nylon bolts are the same size as used in the Deamon/Raptor so it's just the extra weight of the R clips less the removed bolt top.
Now a cheeky bit of tourist advice if I may! Planning on a holiday to Ireland this year and looking to stay on or near the west coast. I've got to keep the wife happy with nice scenery and pretty villages/towns but would also like to slip out for an early morning slope session. We'll have transport but wouldn't really want to be more than 20 mins away from base camp. Any suggestions from someone on the ground?
