Tug sound system

Who makes the best tug sound system? I have a couple that are nothing but white noise generators. The railroad guys have real recordings playing in their trains with great sounds. Anyone have a good sounding setup?
Thanks
Frank

Did you see my review of the Model Solutions of Canada unit in the last issue of "Ships in Scale"?

Pat,
Thanks to you I have to rebuild my house since a Spitfire flew through it!!! WOW!!! Sounds great. I requested a sound bite for nautical sounds as stated on their site. Thanks for the link.

The beauty of the unit is that you can load it with whatever sounds you like, and many are available free on the web. It will do the proportional engine sound, some with a start-up segment, then 4 additional sounds that can be keyed at anytime, plus a few other tricks. I found a tug whistle sequence I liked on the Web, edited its length (too many toots), then loaded that into the module.
Want your own voice barking out "Splice the mainbrace!"?* It can be done...

If you're comfortable loading software on a PC and moving files around, it's a breeze... if not, get the neighbor's kid to help!
Pricier than the white noise things, but you get what you pay for... and those train guys often pay a lot more than this.

(This is where Aero says "Grog?"...)

I'm getting one of those for sure. I'd like to hear the clips, though.

Do not turn up the volume if you have a cat sleeping on top of the monitor with the speakers on either side. The cats quick exit will be over top of you.

Gerald.

Thomas Benedini's are the best by far.

A majority of the tugs have EMD and CAT engines the same used in trains so if you find a good train diesel sound module I would use it. Years ago EMD would not sell new engines and rebuilt engines were put into boats. When I started working on boats I was on a 20 year old boat with 40 year old 12 cylinder EMD's from a train those engines were bullet proof.

Please remember that with real boats, the sound is not noticeable unless the boat is fairly close to you. The problem with most models with sound system is they are too loud, it is not realistic to hear engine sounds from a model 20' away from you. Sometimes silence is Golden.

Gerald

Ram 82

Hello, you could try a sound module from RAM. Here is the URL:

I use the RAm 82 in my "Happy Hunter" and I think it is great sound for a reasonable amount of money.
