New Gluonpilot 2 has arrived!

Yesterday I received one of the first Gluonpilot II's from Tom Pycke in Belgium.

The hardware is completely re-designed and now in a smaller and lighter format (5x4 cm) weighing only 8 grams without headers for the main module.

I plan to use one of the new Gluonpilot2's for a super light MAV setup with the complete autopilot including GPS, XBee and receiver weighing under 20 grams total.

Here are some specifications from the web-page;

MPU-6000 based
All needed sensors (including the switched power supply) are on the main board
On-board USB connector
2 voltage inputs for batteries
1 current sensor input
Extendable: all pins are available on the extension board (I2C, SPI, GPS, ...)
Rewritten OSD firmware with unique features: wind indicator, current navigation block name
High-Efficiency switched voltage regulator at 2.5Mhz
Top quality components for optimum performance: X7R capacitors & 1% resistors
Enough solder jumpers & in- & output ports to customize it to your needs

I have been flying the 'old' Gluonpilot extensively this season (100++ flights) and I really like easy of use and the included Ground control station with Xbee link.

More updates to follow when I have tested the Gluonpilot 2...

/Björn

Hi,

The basic module costs EUR 166 which is around 200 USD.

That is without GPS and there is also an extension board with OSD and XBEE socket for another EUR115 (150 USD). GCS in included and can be downloaded free from www.gluonpilot.com.

Please note that I am not affiliated with Gluonpilot - just a hooked user!

Actually I think it is... Look at the Gluonpilot site and see if the hw design is documented there - I think the GP1 was very well documented incl schematics etc.

Otherwise you could always reverse engineer it from the pics I posted ...

Keep yout fingers crossed - I plan to fire up the module now...

I'd be really happy if you could reverse-engineer it for me

Could you ask Tom if he could post the schematic of the new version?

I will ask Tom thorugh the forum - I know he's pretty busy updating everything on the site now that the new module is released.

GuonPIlot will be available in North America as well

Further to what Icebear has said.

I have made arrangements to have raw units shipped to Canada for final assembly and test. These are made in cooperation with Tom. I have a tracking number and should have the untested units in stock late next week, around the 23rd of November.

All the units we will stock, include Base Unit, Extension board, On Screen.Display option and GPS. We have a test table setup for 24 hour burn in of the units as well as Thermal Cycling.

In addition each unit will have custom length cables from the Rx to the GP2, as well as from the GPS to the GP2 module. On ordering a unit you will tell us what those lengths should be.

There will be a 5-7 day test and assembly process once the units are received

A complete English language manual is being prepared.

The web site is in process as well.

Warranty of the units we sell will be handled here in Canada.

We are testing a polarized power connector to help prevent incorrect connection of DC power. That should be standard once tests are completed.

First units should be ready to ship the first week of December, just in time for Christmas. There will be ads on RC Groups once the units are ready to ship.

Thanks - and welcome onboard ;-)!

I plan to update here when I have integrated the GP2 in an airframe...

For now - you can enjoy a video from the last flight this season with the GP1 in a 1.2 m flying wing with the GoPro2 camcorder in the nose.
