Team Orion Elite Motor

This coreless motor was recommended to me for my Smartech Exquiste. Anyone know a good place to get one thats reliable. I've heard good and bad about Helihobby.com which has them for $54.
Anyone who has used this or has one tell me how its worked out for ya. Any information is great, or other motor suggestions.

What kind of motor is the stock motor on the Exquisite? Isn't it a motor similar to the GWS ips motor? The Team Orion Elite motor might be a big large and heavy for it.

Ya the Exquiste has a small motor on it, it is a pretty skinny motor but it has a 2mm shaft.

The main motor on the Exquiste actually looks exactly like the High Authority tail motor upgrade for the Skylark/Aerohawk on Helihobby.

To be sure, could you take some measurements off it.....diameter/lenght/shaft, this might help everyone hook you up to a cheaper resource. It sounds like a standard 12mm x 30mm motor but the mounting has to be extreamly small...???

That new brushless Feigao just might be the trick for you....

Welp i already got the Team Orion Elite Motor, so looks like i'm going to try and use this. Most likely it wont' fit in the holes that are already there but i can mod it to fit. i think it will work nicely once in there.

Geoffrey109, I don't really want to get into brushless at the moment, i'm sort of new to the Electric micro helicopters so i want to keep it fairly simple + i dont' want to have to get the new controller for it and deal with that. Definetetly later on though that would probably be a perfect brushless motor for the Exquiste.

Any other suggestions or info on some motors?

Alan,
I run Orion on my Piccolo Fun with a Schulze 105he high frequency ESC and it is a very efficient and smooth setup. I consistently get 25-28 minutes on etec 2s1p 1200HP packs. I STRONGLY recommend buying a high frequency ESC for it like 105he or TREC, these are normally used as tail controllers but with 5A rating they work well for the main motor. Coreless motors have extremely low winding inductance and that creates large ripple curent with a conventional ESC that has three negative effects when used at part throttle (typical for a FP heli): premature brush wear, non-linear throttle response and efficiency loss. Even though the high frequency ESCs are a bit expensive you will get efficiency comparable to the top of the line brushless setup.

vladn: Wow, that was some great info. Is there a way i can hook that Schulze 105he ESC up with my Aerohawk 3in1 Board? Also the 2s1p 1200HP packs where exactly can i get that? And where can i get the ESC you were talking about. I'm fairly new to micro heli's and not i was just starting to fly circles around my yard when my stock motor burned out, so please excuse my ignorance.

Alan,

I never used combo boards (got separates right away). I think all you need to do is disconnect combo board throttle cable from the radio, connect new ESC cable to the radio, solder power line of the new ESC to the battery connector in parallel to 3to1 board and solder motor to new ESC. However ask somewhone with 3in1 board to be sure (there are lot's of people doing that when upgrading to brushless).

www.aircraft-world.com has the best price on etec 1200HP I've seen, they are in Japan but ship worldwide, shipping to US is only $2.50 !!! and typically takes 6-7 days. Many other places carry etec second gen HP cells like www.b-p-p.com, www.allerc.com etc.

You can buy TREC directly from www.dionysusdesign.com. I've got Schulze from www.helihobby.com (there are many bad reports about this shop but so far I did not have any problems on few orders). Do a Google search on 105he, I am sure there are other places that carry it.

vladn,

Also what are the downsides to not using the TREC or 105he? Upsides to using? What if i just had the 1200hp 7.4 lipo battery and the O-Elite motor?
