Upcoming construction

Final installation of the cabinets and a new storage counter is set for next Saturday.

In the photo, the 2-door cabinet on top of the counter will go between the windows. The cabinet at the far end of the photon (on the floor) will go on the wall to the right of the window. My new custom counter at the end will have three 3' wide drawers to store my balsa sheets, wood, dowels, foam, etc. Should be really nice when it's done.

Once this work is done, the workshop will be "awesome" (as my son Austin tells me). I don't have any other work to do on the workshop except to maybe add another workshop light, complete some models, and have fun!!

Stay tuned!

It didn't take you long to cover every horizontal surface.

I think that if I had 10K sq. feet of horizontal space that I cold cover it up in short time...

Note to self, limit the horizontal space in my shop.

Construction on the cabinets and counter began this morning. Seems to be moving a lot slower than I expected so this may take a few days. More news/photos to come when it happens.

Was it intentional that the drawers stick out beyond the counter top?

Very observant. That's what you get for "free". I got stuck with custom counters that fit in an office just right, but not quite in my garage. We tried to move things around but they would not sit flush. We opted to push them back against the wall rather than hide the lip.

That said, I was never thrilled with these counter tops. I'm planning to look at butcher block type counters that I'll custom fit down the road (aka - when I can afford them).

For now, it is WAY better than working on a folding table.

Cheers, -Lee

The new counter/drawers are bare wood. Everything will be painted to match the cabinets.
