Help!
Side paddlewheeler

Need help.
I seen somewhere a picture of a side paddlewheeler that carried trains. Anyone know of one or where I can get plans?

Thanks

There are several... for example, the Pacific, which only carried cars, to the enormous Solano, which could carry two entire trains with locos. Anything specific you're after?

I also have a little info on the Great Western, which carried cars between Windsor and Detroit for the Grand Trunk, post Civil War...

Edit: Adding what little more I have on GW.

I'm leaning toward something that would be about 4 ft long when built at a scale of 1/50th. I have a plastic model train I plan to put on it to help the effect.

I just found this(pic). Maybe I'll design my own.

If you want to do a side paddle-wheeler train ferry, why not to one of the greatest and at 424 feet long and 116 feet wide she was for a long time the largest of them all; the Central Pacific Railway Company's Railroad Ferry Steamer "Solano," that carried trains across the Straits of Carquinez between Port Costa and Benicia on the northern San Francisco Bay leading up to the Sacramento Delta or her sister ship the Southern Pacific's Contra Costa that plied the same waters. At 433 feet long by 116 feet over the guards, the Contra Costa supplanted the Solano as the rail largest ferry ever built. Both remained in service until the 1930s
.
Goggle from here...

Wiki Here

A PDF on Contra Costa from November 1914.

A PDF on Contra Costa from September 1915.

From the CENTRAL PACIFIC RAILROAD Photographic History Museum web site... A Central Pacific/Southern Pacific Solano ferry plan package (zip file)

A model of the Solano.

It's a plastic model of a D51 Steam train from Japan. And yes it's 1/50th.

A 1/50th Contra Costa would be 8 feet, 8 inches by 2 foot, 4 inches... way Cool!

Hi,
I found some of the plans above in The Engineer or Engineering technical magazines which were available for photocopying in the State Reference Library old books collection, which I photocopied some 30 years ago now.
It's nice to see I can at last link some pix to the plans of the Solarno and scratch an itch, I've had for years.
