On the landing gear.

I'm still having issue with the right side being weak.

Before I order a new set I wanted to know if any has had luck making a set out of piano wire?

Thanks.

Andre.

Prop & gear update

Rebent the landing gear.
I'm going to see if I can use my mig welder to run a small bead and hold the bend.

Other wise I did confirm a 5mm piano wire will work. So I can make a new set of struts or buy some I guess.

The spinner still needs a bit more work on the bench grinder.
Have to open up the holes to fit the new MS 13x8 prop.

BTW I did have to use my drill to open up the shaft hole on the prop.

Last thing I did was removed all the weight from the cowl.
With my lightest 4S 2650 up to the forward bulk head it still balances out.
Or at least I think. Hoping this will reduce my nose over issues.

More to follow

Flaps

Didn't do the split flaps and only boo is I wish I'd see that white spar before I positioned the servo. I could have seated them lower.

Oh well.

I've just added a used 190 to the stable and it's missing a few parts; mostly prop, the small screws that hold the wing on, and a spinner. There's a parts set available and the wing screws (2.3x20mm) are in there, so that turned out to be easy.

Prop and spinner are out of stock, but I've located an MAS 13x8 so I'lll use that.
What about a spinner? Is there a Dubro or other brand that will fit?
Regards

Kman ,is there much of a difference between the stock motor and the rocket series motor you installed. I just fitted in the rocket series too and havent flown her yet.
The Tacon 42 50 i had was too much for it. Decided to go with the rocket series as my stock motor always screetched at full throttle.even at different timing.

It's not a huge difference, but it is noticeable. It's like it adds one more gear to the power system. Makes it just right IMO

So whats the go to motor and esc for speed on this warbird? I find on 4s with the stock esc and motor that i just dont have that little bit more speed i want. Using a Master Screws 13" 3 blade prop with 1 degree more pitch.

Im using a plush 60 amp esc,its what i had.
The suggested motor is the exceed rocket series 650kv as opposed to the 500kv stock.
Havent flown mine with this motor installed yet.
Kman has though. Theres a video of it flying with that motor on this thread somewhere.

About the motor mount mod for this bird.

I once owned this baby and did the 1/8 birch ply mod to secure the motor but can't remember if I actually attached the plastic motor mount to the ply or just mounted the motor directly to the ply.

Just need to clear this up.

I just mounted it to the ply and added washers for spacers and thrust angle if needed.

Finally

Last weekend I was on a mission to successfully land the FW-190.

I did good number of approach and landings until the repair patch failed but yeah. Felt good to shake the nerves and get comfortable landing the 190.

I certainly would like to add some more colour to the leading edge on this plane.

The gear strut failed right away so I left the gear down during the flights.

I've made up a replacement gear strut from a piece of 5mm piano wire.
Should be interesting to see how it holds up.

Keep us posted on how the piano wire holds up.
As for the landing gear pocket,
I reinforced the inside pockets where the lg motor is. Lined it with a layer of surgical cloth tape and then coted it with thin ca. Glue. Works great.
There should be some pics in this thread.
