Needle 100

Hello you guys trying to get a little input from you all. I have a Needle 100 not the DS version. What would you say the safe speed for DSing this plane?

Thank you
George

On Mine the elevator popped in a violent shear at around 211mph but it has gone to 237mph In a smooth zone.
And that was the DSL version

Ah,
Did I just read the words safe and Dssing in the same sentence?
Define Safe.

This from Thuro regarding the DSL, and the FDS….
and I quote:
The DSL is good for 400km/h 248.55 mph, with N100 FDS 7,5kg we flew 560 km/h 347mph 264.5 ounces if kg is kilograms… until the pilot crashed this bullet.
No idea where or whom flew it into the ground.

These are figures from Thuro when I inquired April 16, 2014.

No speed numbers were given on the CF Needle (your version)..fwiw is a very fun plane to fly I have put several flights on Arrens in big wind as well as light lift.
Fun predictable plane.

Bosleys site RCSPEEDS has 241 and a picture of a needle with ds on the wing which I believe to be the DSL version which would go with Thuros numbers….

So, safe speed dsing?

Well brother that is on you to figure out.

Alan

I think with a clean shear and well set-up linkages and servos, 200 would be about the limit

Sounds like if you modify the elevator to something a bit more up to it you could push it harder and find its real limit. From what I have seen of the DSLs they are up to flutter speed within a few laps on a strong day, and it seems its the elevator that usually flutters. Fix that up and who knows what you might do with it.
Cheers

Thanks you guys I really don't want to push it no use in blowing up a good plane when I can get a very good DS plane at the same cost. I guess keeping it under 200 would be a good idea. I am planing on buying a DS plane for next season. I think one of Spencers planes might be a good choice. On another note I sure wish I had listened to you all concerning the Blade XXL double carbon I bought. The plane blew up right away second or third lap at Norco I don't want to make that mistake again.

Thanks you all
George

I would personally keep the Needle 100 under 160 for longevity
