Hey ARCTURAS just a heads up. When installing your T-pro, position it so the spline shaft is oriented towards the tail. The control rods for this bird are a little short. Moving the servo around will give you more adjustment for trimming and still provide the extra throw the elevator needs. Have fun.

I've read all 1300 or so posts over the last two weeks. I pulled the trigger on a PNP Meteor from Nitroplanes late last week; its arriving tomorrow. I've also got one 4S-3300-30C Sky lipo, one 5S-3000-30C Sky Lipo, and a T-Pro MG servo for the elevator coming from Hobbypartz as well. This is my first EDF so I wanted to start out with 4S but also have option to try 5S. Looking forward to getting it together and its maiden flight.

For benefit of anyone who hasn't read all 1300 posts here is my summary of what stuck in my head, in no particular order
  • Most are happy with the performance of the Meteor, fun to fly
  • Many on this thread consider the Meteor a better value than the Habu
  • Make clearance for enough elevator throw, use outer hole in servo horn
  • Consider a replacement metal gear servo for elevator
  • Make sure fan & motor are centered and balanced
  • Make sure all the control horns are glued securely as well as other fasteners
  • Stock Habu (4S) is faster than Stock Meteor (4S)
  • Stock setup can handle 5S (unlike Habu)
  • Stock Meteor on 5S is faster than Stock Habu (4S)
  • Current Draw on 5S is in the high 50s
  • Current draw on 4S in the 40s amp range
  • Speeds: Stock setup 4S in the mid 80s mph; mid to high 90s and even 100+ on 5S with stock setup; level passes
  • ESC in Meteor stays cooler than Habu due to location, even on 5S
  • Poor packing materials from Dynam can result in damaged airframe during shipping
  • Sources in US are Nitroplanes and Grayson
  • Seems like most people use batteries between 2650-3300 mah, though plenty of reports up to 4000, 5000, or as low as 2200
  • Adjust your battery location with the smaller or larger batteries to maintain proper CG, may require cutting some foam
  • Retracts are doable but weight penalty
  • Hand launches are possible, so are bungee launches
  • Options available for aftermarket fans & motors
  • Careful on landings, keep up enough speed to avoid stall, adjust with rudder vice ailerons once on final
  • A guy named Pavcon had to wait 3 months for his Meteor, then it was busted up some on arrival. Sorry dude

I'm sure I'm missing plenty...
There is a chance you will fry the stock ESC with 5s lipos...It happened to me.

Must have been a bad esc. I fly mine for a solid 5 minutes on 5s. Battery and esc dont even get warm.

Wing skids

Anyone hand-launching the Meteor using any kind of skids for the underpart of the wing? I was thinking of getting the Evader wing skids and put them on. Any ideas?

GP's Evader Wing Skids:

As you see they are bigger/taller than the average wing skids (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTDS6&P=7). I wonder if they would work well on the Meteor.
I just don't want to hurt the plane too much with scratches on landings. It would be neat to keep it as clean as possible

I ordered them last night but Labor day is coming so no skids for like a week I'll keep you guys posted.

I was flying my planes yesterday in pretty heavy wind.
On some i had to use spoilers to avoid forcing them down. I tried the same with meteor and the effect was opposite: ailerons in up position worked like elevons. This gave me an idea for better elevator authority. I put a mix of elevator to ailerons and now at full speed I can do a loop almost as small as with my extra.
And this applies to inverted too, which until now was scary and done at 5 miles up.
Another thing worked is harrier and almost a hover and I am using a brick for a battery. (4s 5000 mAh turnigy)
While I was in programming mode I added to my throttle kill switch (mix 1) full spoilers and full down elevator to cut down on landing roll. Once I touch the runway I flick my mix switch and plane stops rolling in about 15-20 feet.
I also put front gear servo on gear channel, separated from rudder, but mixed with it so I can trim both independently.
I put on the plane 8 flights since and love it.

Got to maiden my Meteor this weekend... Flies good. Lots of fun.

The only question I have is

With my 4s 3000 battery all the way forward in the tray it still seemed like it was tail heavy.

At least I think that was what I was feeling. The plane kept wanting to climb, and took ALLOT of down trim for level flight.

Landing was GREAT.... I see many more touch-n-goes in my future

Thanks
D.
