I would hope so. The manufacturing costs in China would be a lot cheaper. A company has to be willing to put ou the money for the injection mould die for the component parts. But, it's easier for them to be laser cut the parts and supply a complete arf.

I have one needing some work and am looking for a tracing, dimensioned drawing, or whatever to make a rib indexing tool. Or if someone has one they would sell.

Can you remind me what the indexing tool looks like? Most of my jig is still boxed up from my last move, but I might be able to find the stuff.

What's the status on this in 2013?

I've been waiting for a complete one to pop up on ebay or RCGroups...they sell for 300 and over sometimes if NIB.

I guess you mean a 2013 brand new one. Probably ain't going to happen. The originator of this thread hasn't logged on to RCGroups in over 2 years.

Thanks. Well at least I scored one on Ebay, but it's missing the rib indexing tool for locating the two holes in ribs. Hopefully I can find pics good enough to make a good enough drawing to let me make one.

Gene, I just PMd you to see if you still have this.

Thanks

template, I decide to make one using measurements taken from one I had sold.

The original 3"x15" base was made of 1/4" tempered masonite, with a 1/8" thick masonite centering guide plate attached to the left end. On the right end was a sliding 1/8" inch thick injection molded plastic U channel with a 1.5" wide 1/32"
deep channel on its top surface used to center the right end of a 1/32" thick, 1.5"
wide, 15" long plastic hole punching guide (a pair of 5/32" dia. holes, 2" o/c).
The left side of the plastic strip had a centered 3/32" x 5" slot fixed by a 3/32"
screw centered in the left side positioning guide.

Since the original jig's 1/4" thick base had developed a 3/8" bow over the years,
I decided to make the new base out of 3/4" MDF. I made the left and right end guides from 1/8" x 3" aluminum channel with legs cut back to 5/8" depth. A .040" deep, 1.5" wide recess was milled into the top of the right guide. The left guide was drilled and tapped to accommodate pressure clamping knob w/a #6 32 thread. The 1.5" x 15" plastic strip was cut from 1/16" clear polycarbonate
with a milled .125" x 6" slot and pair of 5/32" guide holes.

So if all else fails in locating a rib hole indexing jig, you can always make one.

Attachments show the original and the homemade replica.

Thanks Gene, with that, I can make a trip to the local machinist, and get one made to replace my missing one, that will last a lot longer.
