If you want telemetry, I really recommend switching over to FrSky. They are also releasing a $200 transmitter that has 60 model memory and other amazing specs.

What range can you get reliably using this TX module using the stock antenna, installed in a stock 9XR, and running a stock "full range" OrangeRX DSM2 RX?

Will this set up match the performance of a stock DX6i for range?

It should. The ORx DSM module is a full range Tx, but the actual "performance" will be determined more by how your equipment is set up.

A preflight range check should give some indication of the range "performance" of your set up.

I got 200 meters downrange in a field test before gltiching into failsafe and getting signal back.

The glitch out could have been due to antenna angle (I had it mounted @ 90 degrees parallel to the TX case back -- bad angle for my main RX antenna although just a bit better for the satellite).

Extending the antenna down, or pulling the u fl lead out and running the antenna out the top of the TX in "standard" spektrum position might help.

We'll see.

From what I have seen so far most issues with OrangeRX is on the receiver side and that Spectrum receivers will perform better in a range check. I think the TX is "good" in a sense that I suspect it puts out more than 100mW, considering the RX noise I get in my Taranis.

Then again there are plenty of sad pilots using original DSM2 Spectrum TX & RX.
PS. I still can't believe people are calling Hitec "branded" radio - that stuff was a guaranteed to down your models in the past.
