Quiz - How many cells is this?

Just a quick quiz for you to guess the cell count based on this picture.

A buddy crash damaged this pack yesterday so I hooked a bulb to drain it to zero and curiosity got the better of me. This is what I found inside.

I will post the correct answer on Monday.

Add on Monday: Answer is in post #9

If you could slide the picture over to the left so we can see the fold we may be able to see something.

I think that is a single cell with the covering removed. You can see the silver covering just on the bottom right of the image.

You are also correct. This is what makes up a single cell from a Hyperion pack, 4200 I think, that is made up of 3 cells in parallel and then sealed under the foil.
This is the first I have seen like this and I must admit, I have had very few G3's fail/lose a cell compared to other brands.
This is one of the reasons we pay more for these packs, they really are different and hold up quite well. I wonder if all of sizes are like this or just the larger ones? Things that make you go hummmmmm....

Kokam, a long time ago, had a super good cell, I think is was a 400mah (+/- a lot) which outperformed all of their others. As I recall they used it in multiple units for their larger packs.
Not a bad idea......

Here is a Thread from March 2006 where I disassembled a similiar LiPoly.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...52#post5219954

I was also aware that Hyperion used the same construction on some of thier LiPolys but was trying not to give to big of a clue..

Commerical companies still tie cells together in series or parallel.

Electric cars are unbelievable in their stringing together of cells.

You're not making much sense - how can 3 cells connected together whether it's a series or parallel connection, be a single cell? It's a single cell pack comprised of 3 cells.

You showed a picture of 3 individual cells.

What's missing here?

1 or 3 is correct. 1 in the context that it was a single foil pack. 3 in the context that the single cell consisted of 3 subcells within the hermetic foil pack.

This was bandied about in the iCharger thread a year or so ago... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...ostcount=10413

Yes - that's the only logical answer.
