mini-z track surface

I've been trying to find track for mini-z and only came up with this link so far. http://www.rcptracks.com/ This stuff is way over-priced IMO. Any better links? We're racing on the basement floor and it's proving to be way too slippery of a surface. Any help would be apreciated.

Try walmart or home depot, and buy some EVA flooring tiles. Then you just need to make some barriers.

Here is a video of my track system - designed for smaller scale than mini-z, but you will get the idea.

I've never heard of EVA tiles. I tried searching Lowe's and Home depot's web sites and couldn't find them. Any help you could give me would be apreciated. The video was cool. I also checked out your site while I was at it.

Both Wal-Mart and home depot have sold these tiles before. They are usually listed under garage or sports equipment. I believe that they are sold as temporary cushion flooring (ie for laying down in a garage).

If you still have no luck, try posting at http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/index.php
These guys have sourced them before and as most members are in the USA they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Cheers

PS Glad you liked the vid

go to local home store and get a piece of carpet the size you need...and double-sided tape. I'm a flooring guy and never heard of eva either. Carpet is very cheap and a piece of commercial carpet suitable for racing on that's 12x15 should cost less than $50. Look for level-loop in 16-20oz, size depends on how big of a track you want, but 12' and 15' width is standard.

I have a piece of low pile carpeting, about 10' square. Could send it to you but shipping would be kinda pricey

I finally found the EVA squares at Lowe's. You just have to find the right person who knows what you're talking about. After taking them out of the package I'm wondering if they're going to be too slippery. One side has a rough pattern in it but it's the slickest side. The back seems to be fairly smooth as well but not quite as slick of a finish. I thought about carpet but static and the fact it's not too portable have me looking into the EVA. We bought the x-mods last year to see how we liked the micro style stuff for racing. We'll probably go to the mini-z's before long. Until we can resolve the track issues though I can't see hopping any of them up. We can't get them to lock onto a track surface yet. I'm also considering painting the squares with a anti-skid paint to see if that will help. Getting traction with these little cars is a pain. I plan on putting all the squares together since the wife is in bed and trying them out. I want to surprise her with a new track for Christmas. I already have a design for the rails worked out in my head.

I only work at 1/64th scale, but there are a lot of guys (and gals) out there racing the mini-z/Xmods?IWaver etc.

If you visit some other forums like www.bitpimps.lixlink.com or www.microrccenter.com, you will find loads of tips and tricks about racing on them tiles (I think they use special sticky foam tyres, or a latex coating on the tyres).

Good luck

For others looking for cheap tracks, try the underside of a carpet. We used our old livingroom carpet which had the finest plastic weaving underneath. Tons of traction... Try it!
