I have used pay-pal for 5 years with just a few bumps in the road! UNTIL I was thrown under the bus with absolutely NO recourse, You would think I robbed a bank or taken hostages or something, I was immediately convicted by PP with no phone call, email, or any type of concern or initiative taken by PP. One would think that my flawless track record with them would mean something? Needless to say my money and I stress my money was frozen solid. I was is all sense of the word out of business! Thanks to the wonderful customer service from PP. Thank God I did have a back up merchant account through my business-banking center. I have spent countless hours on the phone with these no good blankly blank people only to here the words spoken “we are sorry and wish we could help but we no longer want your business” Talk about making your blood boil!! This has been a real eye opener to me as a small business, needless to say! When companies like pp have the audacity, the arrogance, and so called power and authority to Freeze MY FUNDS, throw you under the BUS and run over you a few times should get everyone to stand up and take notice. Anyone that is remotely thinking about setting up a pp account should most defiantly think again. Anyone that currently has a pp account should close immediately and get what rightfully belongs to you! Your Money! Read the fine print! Nothing in their policies protects you, only them. (period) They will and can THROW you under the bus anytime they so choose! Case and point!
There are many horror stories just like mine, which you can read about on these websites below. http://www.aboutpaypal.org/ http://www.paypalsucks.com/ http://www.paypalwarning.com/ |

MerchantInc.com is listed on the Paypalsucks.com site as reliable but RipOffReport.com has negative ratings for that company as well. Similar to PP ripoff complaints. Even worse, it looks like Paypalsucks.com promotes alternatives to PP.
Card Service International owns MerchantInc.com and they require people sign contracts for 3 years plus there are monthly fees and you have to wait days to get your money while they earn interest on your money. Review this complaint and others online because they all have issues: http://www.ripoffreport.com/departme...ntha-3747b.htm Buy Merchant INC. Craig Bentham Ordered items from web site totling 6 cases received 4 refused to ship balance even with proof of nonshipment from them Internet. http://www.ripoffreport.com/director...chant-INC.aspx I searched in Bing for a pair of Coach boots and his sited came up http://www.buymerchant.com. I tried using my credit card twice and it said it was rejected because my address did not verify, so I used PayPal. I called the company at the phone # listed on the website and said I was calling to make sure they had received my payment and wanted to make sure they had the item in stock. He said he didn't know and had 187 people that had placed orders in front of me. I said ok when will you know? He said he would call me Monday. An hour later he stared calling me telling me I was being recorded and that I committed fraud using a credit card that was not valid and a Pay Pal account that had suspicious activity on it. I said that is not true. He said we will NOT ship you the item and you will be charged a 20% restocking fee! I said I will not pay a restocking fee and he said yes you will and you will be going to jail! |

Since you've only presented part of the story, it's unclear what really happened. It's clear you're frustrated. Calling for everyone that has money in PP to close their account just sounds hysterical though don't you think? Is PP perfect? Of course not. Do they make mistakes. Of course they do. Are there better services to use out there? I don't think so. If you use PP and back up your purchase with a credit card, you have almost 100% safety when making online purchases. Western Union? Really? I suppose it has it's purpose, but have you seen the commentary basically everywhere about how this company is used to scam people? You have virtually no recourse with this group once you send your cash to someone. I've dealt with PP as a buyer and seller for over 10 years now. I've had 3 situations in which I had to contact them for their involvement as I was not pleased with their decision. Each time I was able to reach a person who could speak clear English, was professional, and took care of the problem to my satisfaction. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for. For their ease of use and overall protections afforded to buyers and sellers, I love using PP. Of course the fees suck, but a small price to pay. Cash of course, is always prefered. If you use common sense, follow the rules (send to verified addressed, get delivery conf, signatures on items over $250.00 etc etc), and talk with your buyer or seller, then check their feedback, almost all transactions will go smoothly. Find a company that doesn't have a XXXXXsucks.com site...almost all do. If you can post a complete accounting of what happened, I would guess that there will be folks who would try to help you out. At a minimum it might serve as valuable information on what not to do. |

Western Union bad, really? You guys are missing the point about this thread, this thread is about Sellers, not buyers and what I'm reading is reactions based on buyers remorse only. This is about sellers. Western Union is not as cheap as Paypal but for Sellers WU is a safe bet because you have to use your drivers license in most states to send money and to pick it up money you have to prove who you are in person. Online, the person is verified the same way the PP uses so its not perfect nor better.
Sellers don't pay fees to WU, buyers pay to send funds. If a buyers refuses PP then WU is a safe bet for sellers because smart sellers know to send the package with a required receipt and or certified mail. In either case the seller gets paid and the buyer can't scam the seller. Several banks offer money services too and Western Union is discussed at the Consumers Union, the company who owns Consumers Report magazine. Honest sellers have nothing t fear so long as the package is prepped and packed properly. Insurance is a good idea but if the buyer says no, then its on them to go after the shipper. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2...road/index.htm Also, for buyers, no matter how you send money, use a credit card to make the purchase because if you get scammed, calling to request a charge back can be done over the phone. I know for a fact Citibank and Chase will file chargebacks over the phone because I've done it and it beats writing a complaint and shortens the process. We have alternatives to paypal but PP is well known and the Johnnie Come Lately's lack a track record but even PP has stories of misery. Fact is, many don't know their credit card rights and I discourage using bank funds because PP then has the upper hand. Sellers should get receipts for everything and hold on to them for a couple of months. The Postal Service is your best bet because money xfer services know its crime to fake postal docs which protect sellers who can back up claims. |

All good info, well presented. WU does have it's place in commerce, and plenty of people have used them.
Best info is understanding your CC rights, and NOT using checking function on PP. It's better two have two backups rather than one. |

an opinion
I think this is a US site?
I am a bi-national England & US I have "experienced" both buyer and seller "protection" thru paypal and it = 0.00 Only a view years ago you would respond to a print ad, agree a price, send payment (usually via check) and await your item(s). Back then it was all in trust, oh yea there were some bad apples, but they were few, and I believe they still are. Paypal have spent a fortune on convincing us all that we cannot be trusted, and that we should trust them! Google Mary Croft to learn of the banksters fraud, and know that paypal are the worst of the worst - unregulated by ANYONE. I would willingly pay someone, that appears trustworthy, cash or what ever - because I DO NOT like paypal AT ALL USA, a nation born out of defying unfair taxation - WHAT happened? Graham |

Mary Croft, she's the tax cheats crook of crooks seeking unlimited credit. Most of us are lucky that PP transactions work out. As for taxes, too many on the left want us to become like Europe and others say the UK is doing fine with high debt and high taxation. Drive beyond London and see the rest of England. Washington DC is full of stupid on the left and right and that too could explain why Paypal doesn't work for those who get cheated.

Paypal just told us we can't sue them with a Class Action style case. That's unconstitutional because no company can assert what our legal rights are in the USA. Now by using the service, the language says were are opting in if we don't opt out or close the account, total BS.
PP cannot stop Americans from pursuing a court case as an individual plaintiff or class action. But its a game they can play till the ACLU and other civil rights groups review this nonsense. Fact is they know more people are ticked off with transaction disputes and fear a class action. I'm betting they have an unfair plan for those who choose opt out. From the PP email I received. PayPal recently posted a new Policy Update which includes changes to the PayPal User Agreement. The update to the User Agreement is effective November 1, 2012 and contains several changes, including changes that affect how claims you and PayPal have against each other are resolved. You will, with limited exception, be required to submit claims you have against PayPal to binding and final arbitration, unless you opt out of the Agreement to Arbitrate (Section 14.3) by December 1, 2012. Unless you opt out: (1) you will only be permitted to pursue claims against PayPal on an individual basis, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative action or proceeding and (2) you will only be permitted to seek relief (including monetary, injunctive, and declaratory relief) on an individual basis. You can view this Policy Update by logging in to your PayPal account. To log in to your account, go to https://www.paypal.com and enter your member log in information. Once you are logged in, look at the Notifications section on the top right side of the page for the latest Policy Updates. We encourage you to review the Policy Update to familiarize yourself with all of the changes that have been made. |
