Thanks to all my fellow ASA club members for your support in our first F3J contest. Thanks to the teams from Arizona and Denver for attending. Congratulations to John P, John A, John L and Jim M, great flying.

Back home in AZ after a great contest, lots of great flying at a great flying field, the Balloon Fiesta Park, with great flying buddies.

Thanks ASA for putting this one on and providing lunches for us. Thanks to John A for the catered breakfasts and dinners.

Thanks to AZ Team for all the support and exercise as we flew every heat as we were a team of 4 and the rest were 3.

Congrats to John A for 2nd place after some exciting 15 minute flights in the fly-offs.

and thanks to everyone who was flying and/or helping to make this event happen.

Hope we get to do it next year too

Thanks to Skip Miller Models for my South West Classic raffle prize Topaz which was only supposed to do the early am flights but had to do more when my other 2 models had "issues". Even won one 1000 with it.

Home safe. Thanks to Buzz and the NM club for a great event. Didn't know what to expect, but wanted to support the effort for the 1st F3J event in Alb., and tune up for the TS.
The field was way beyond my expectations. The layout was set in 2 directions in case it needed to be flipped. We didn't need it, but very well thought out. There are paved roads cutting the very large area into concentric squares for balloon access. That is ideal for F3J field layout, everything is square. The roads also give you great access without the 200 meter hike to the flight line. The grass was unbelievable, several guys doing the Joe thing in bare feet. We were concerned with the obstacles around the field, towers, power lines, some mystery parking area, and a golf course in range. In the end none of them came in play, plenty of room. In fact the topography steps down to an absolutely flat field, and the slopes/blacktop/nearby safe features are great thermal generators.

A bonus is its close proximity to the city. The hotel was 10 minutes away, and Sandia Casino maybe 15 min. MUCH BETTER than Moriarty. Hand launch is a no brainier there.

Thanks guys, Ill definitely be back.

John L.
