Mold for v-tail joiner

With the building board cleared I have time to try out the v-tail mold I made a while back.

The joiner needs to be made before anything can be done because from that I can make the joiner box which can then go into the layup.

Joiner mold is mdf base, alum box section sides and based on the dimensions of some K&S plastic extrusion which conveniently matches the thickness of the tail section inc. skins/ fabrics and leaves enough room for the bonding bog mix.

Joiner will be balsa core, carbon sock and carbon uni and 12K tows to make up the rest.

Joiner de-molded

One joiner done. Or more correctly, two. This length is good for both sides.

The idea is to bevel their ends to match the 105 / 2 degrees angles and secure them in the fuz. permanently with their ends butt joined using some light bog.

Removable joiners are not a requirement here and complicates the design.

Joiner has medium balsa inside. Not the lightest solution but strong. 4 layers of fibral bonded uni top and bottom and 24K tows x 4 each side.

Lots of surplus resin oozed out while under compression from heavy weights.

Next-up; make the boxes.

Don't know what happened to the project but I have a wing from the molds that I am about to mount on a faser fuse.

If Chris does not mind I would be happy to post some pics here.

Knock yourself out, I'd love to see your Hybrid!

The Nexor Pro moulds are still viable and our builder group has a stack of Rohacell to work with so we may look at another. The simple fact is we all have sufficient numbers of competition gliders at the moment that don't break and rarely crash ;0()

The Nexor Pro doesn't have an edge over existing models other than the novelty value of; "we built it ourselves". Which admittedly is a strong incentive to build.

FYI
The plugs have yielded another set of stretched (by 75mm each side) molds sitting in Alan Mayhew's workshop in Melbourne. Alan's still working on his.

The ultimate Nexor would be spread tow, Rohacell, RDS ailerons, conventional flaps, pre-fab UHM spar with a Maxa-a-like fuz / tail feathers or possible removable V-tails in Disser.

If my existing glider inventory reduces I might get the resin in and get moulding but for the moment I'm golden.

Moulding an F3B high-aspect ship, big scaley or a competitive DLG offers greater incentive.

Well the hybrid project started about 3 years ago when I purchased an untouched DC faser fuse from RC Trader. Fast forward a few years and after a house move I place a wanted add on the groups and RC trader purchasing the wing last christmas.

This is coming together slowly after a recent purchase of airtronic servos and repair to some damaged tail feathers.

Hi Jim,
10" Makita compound mitre saw with a fresh blade that cuts carbon. The kerf was 3-4mm but factored in hence the 12mm ply root ribs).
