Scale F4U Corsair 1200 mm with Plans

UPDATE :

F4U Corsair 1200 mm Project is complete
you can download the PDF file below
Assembly instructions

This plane will be my 7th design and build RC plane. I made the model with Gmax, a free version of 3DS max and use pepakura designer to unfold the 3D into 2D model. I use mainly polyfoam / depron foam 5-6 mm. Latest progress is the wing, I use hard balsa hardened with CA glue for 2 spars, ribs with foam. I already installed the retract landing gear that I bought from Hobbyking. The plan will be released and shared here and in my site once the plane can fly on the her maiden flight.

Plane specification
- wingspan 1200 mm
- flying weight target 1200 grams
- motor, hobbyking 350 watt 750 kv (durafly mustang 1100 mm motor)
- esc : 35A
- battery : 3S-2200 mAh
- prop 3 blade master airscrew 11x6
- landing gear : 2 retract, fixed but steerable tail wheel
- material : polyfoam/depron 5mm, plywood 2mm, hard balsa 2mm
- glue : hot glue
- coloring : printed paper coating (try new method)

Thank you Joe
another progress, rudder and elevator platform. Now all parts are finish and then I need to unfold the fuselage parts and later print them.

I'm in love! I am partial to the F4U Corsair, so much so that I've had my local Staples print me off three different sets of 24" X 36" plans to build out of DTF in the near future. The retractable landing gear is an added bonus. Looking forward to your maiden flight!

Thank you miss5031 and Robert, corsair is one of my favorite planes. I'll keep posting the progress and surely will make a video of the maiden flight

Looking forward to the progress.

This is my inspiration for me to build a DTF or EPP version.

I'm not sure how you are constructing the Corsair fuselage from the CAD pictures, but I thought I would show the method I now use based on an internal box to support the formers.

The model is a 67" span Dauntless --

I will build it with the way I build my 1300 PT-17 Stearman. Similar with your method, but with a lot less formers / frames.

Yep, that's an H&M F4U Corsair balsa and plywood ARF. But I'm a bit nervous about flying it, even if I had all of the components for it.

That other plane is an Apprentice S RTF with the AS3X system. Yes, I'm cheating with it, but I am a newbie after all. Sometimes it's also my Mobius platform.

You're giving me some accelerated motivation to begin the build process on my foam Corsair.

I should have been printing the plans and began to build the fuselage this weekend but then I realized my printer run out of ink. Need to buy new one tomorrow, in the meantime i continue detailing parts like missiles and bombs. All parts already drawn into plans, ready for printing. This is a progress pic

How did you do the gull wing spars? Is it cut from a single piece of balsa or glued from pieces? Is it strong enough to withstand landings? I've been wanting to build a Stuka for a long time now but can't figure out how to do the spars.

On my 100cm WS Corsair i cut two "W" parts from 3mm plywood and the wing spars was "sandwitched" between these two plywood parts (the external wings was stuck on the W pieces once they was finished).

I cut it from 1 sheet balsa, and then hardened it with CA glue. I use 2 spars front and back. Strong enough for landing? I don't know yet, we'll know it on maiden flight.

I think plywood has more strength, I should use it but too lazy to cut one
