FPV Skyfun build

After flying my Easystar for a while now, I felt the need for speed.

So I bought a Skyfun from Hobbyking.

An EZ OSD and 400mW 1.3GHz Tx from Readymade RC.

I will also be running a Thomas 12 channel long range RX.

I was thinking of using a go pro for the main flying camera to save weight, but I would be open to suggestions here. Is it better to use a different flying camera. or should I just go with the go pro?

I'll post some pics when I get going!

I'd like to see how others may have mounted a go pro on the Skyfun...

Go GoPro! I'd love to see crazy low flying through trees like you Aussies are famous for. BUT, in HD.

Sounds like fun...

But why would you use such kit for that kind of aircraft? Looks more like a fun around the park plane...which probably does not need an OSD and a LRS...

Because I want to go cloud surfing! Nothing wrong with long distance, speed and knowing where the hell you are

Kmart you know which go pro is going in there don't you?

gree, you might be the first to mount a gopro on a skyfun.

I think mine would fly like crap with a big un-aerodynamic brick on it. But mine is a franken-skyfun. I've attached some pictures of it from the last rebuild.

The way I have it setup here I feel is optimum weight and balance for it. I've flown it heavier, and I've flown it lighter, but this seems to perform the best.

I agree here... The skyfun is a quick, small, light plane for crazy flying! I've flown it hard, and put it away wet since day one, and its still kicking. I want to fly through tree openings, under bridges, surf ridges, and not have to worry about losing the plane and breaking the bank if I do.

OSD, gopro and other expensive equipment would just deter me from doing crazy stuff that makes good videos

Well I'll give it all a try anyway. If it doesn't work or is too heavy I can always take all the whizzbang stuff off and buy a Zepher to join the Trappy crowd

I have test the views on different places on the plane with the Go Pro hooked up to my tv. If I use it I plan on sinking it into the nose, so I just get a bit of the nose in the picture. The camera position to achieve this is actually quite sunken, so about half of the camera would be sticking up and the rest buried in foam.

I am still undecided about the heavy go pro or a normal camera. It is just that my ground recorder is really crap so videos look poor. And I don't want to buy a new one.

Plus a free go pro is a terrible thing to waste!

I am waiting on the OSD and video tx to arrive, so I think I will assess the situation then... Hopefully shouldn't be too long.

Looks like the EZ OSD may take a while to come in, so I may build it sans OSD to begin with and see how we go from there...

The Skyfun was my very first plane( and I think best).

Looking forward to seeing the progression.

This plane is awesome.

Well I swapped the EZ OSD for an Eagle Tree since there was no eta from the store on when stock would be arriving. All my gear is shipping as we speak so it should be here sometime next week.

In the meantime I am sitting down today to do the majority of the build so hopefully there will be some posts with pictures in here soon!
