Women's health funding cuts in Texas.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/07/us...ce=twitter&ad&

This article suggests that decreased funding of contraceptive services for poor women will increase the number of poor children born in Texas. That may not have been the intent of the decrease in funding.

To believe the story you have to have a few giant leaps of faith. That there are women out there that are having sex without birth control that would be using birth control if only there was more of it available for free. If the woman somehow can't afford it then can't she ask the man to buy it? She kind of holds the trump card in that negotiation. Plus don't women who would qualify for "free birth control" operate under a system that rewards them for having more children? In that case what incentive do they even have in using the free birth control?

Sorry ... Sex isn't a neccessity ... if you can't afford the ticket to ride ... don't go on the ride.

It's still about personal responsibility ...

You can get your pills at walmart for 5 bucks a month.

If you cannot afford 5 bucks a month to have sex, then you have a bigger problem than sex.

In a thread about cutting funding for women's health care, that's the context. There's no funds being cut for prostate exams or testicular cancer screenings.

Context is important.

The phrase "it's about personal responsiblity" applies to all.

So go ahead and start a thread about cutting services for men's reproductive health, quote logan in it, and I'll agree with you. Until then the topic of this thread is WOMEN's health.

Of course ... if a man can't afford condoms, he shouldn't be having sex either.

All for it. And yep ... I'd support it 100% too. No Federal nor State taxpayer money should be spent on providing contraceptions to anyone for the purpose of sexual relations.

Now, if a woman can prove that she needs birthcontrol pills to address a medical issue, that's a different story.

But right now we're just talking about booty calls. Some old dude wants to get a boner for his 20 year old girlfriend ... he should do it on his own dime.

Some college girl wants to put out for a different guy each week? She'd better put out the cash for contraception first ... or at least make sure the dudes she's banging are bringing their own to the party.

So ... are we agreed at least on the issue of recreational sex, that safe participation is the responsibility of the participants regardless of gender or age?

So is it your assertion that those things are provided by the government, but women's health is not?

Well stated and I couldn't agree more.

Defunding planned parenthood will impact much more than subsidized birth control.

What about condoms for preventing the spread of communicable diseases?

Remember the old saying: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
