I want to warn you about this mount.
It looks promising me too, used for a Slinger BL conversion, placed classical in the back, but developed a crack after some hard landings.
Now I replaced with a second one and also shows signs of fatigue, the paint exfoliates in the inflect area.
The metal bend is definitely not done right.

Nice to know this Renatoa.
What i have in mind is to build a fiberglass pod and mount everything in it
if the test is successful.
I hope it can stand a couple flights.
The plane will be landing with it's belly with a parachute so my only fear now is not to loose the engine in mid air.
Btw i just mounted a 5000 mah lipo on the plane (it has to be where the old propeller was!!!) and it still looks light to me.
I think it will fly and if my calculations are correct the stream of air from the big propeller will give some authority to the control surfaces at low speeds.
How you Slinger flew?
Ahh i just understood what you meant, you used the motor mount but at the back following the classical pusher configuration.

First Xeno flights for me yesterday for about two months, while I waited for the metal drive shaft upgrade ..... fitted it and also changed to servo's on top ..... flying great ...... took it up on the slopes and must have had at least 2 hours air time ...... just a photo but must try and get some video next time ..... the new shaft gives a lot of confidence in the power train ........

Update on the tractor Xeno.
It flew alright with plenty of power but i screwed up the CG.
The factory CG does not hold true when the motor is in front.
Also the CG is very critical when the weight goes up.
I need to make another pod and move thing to the front.

CG position is normally independant from weight. If your boom provides additional lifting area in front of the wing, the CG must be moved forward.

With the motor at the front even a tiny change of thrust angle will have a rather larger effect due to the wash over the wings from the prop.

Xeno wallowing on the slope

Just posted a video of my stock glider Xeno (4AA NiCd cells) on a slope in less-than-perfect conditions.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1260318

Sorry for the mobile phone resolution, one can however still get a good impression what the Xeno will do under conditions one might find not too far from home.
Wallowing is induced either by turbulent wind or by pilot input especially when navigating a rather small space.

It flies best fast with a strong steady wind, but these conditions aren't always easy to come by (for me) so I ordered a Weasel Evo from dreamflight for the smaller slopes. I still believe that the Xeno will be an excellent plane for taking on a hike in the mountains where its size is a big plus when one wants to fly in a bigger space, and the good aerodynamics and considerable weight (even without ballast) make it capable of going quick - then it will also track. The foldable desigh for easier transport in a backpack was the main reason I bought it.

best
Clemens

You are both right!
There is additional lift from the boom and indeed the propeller wash makes the airplane very nervous.

I sent a Email to Germany. It did take a long time, but they came through.

How to launch Xeno

I have most of the Multiplex planes and I am interested in a Xeno. How can it be launched without getting my fingers bitten? I launch my other wing by the leading edge.
I am confused about the shaft problems. If I buy one now will it ge upgraded?

Hi Flybear,
Just throw it with the motor off, like any glider into the wind, then after it leaves your hand
then, turn on the motor Easy! or where a steel glove to protect your fingers!
The new tuning kits should have the new steel shaft, Check with Jurgen Heilig, he should know.

My new Fins

Hi Guys,
Here is a photo of my new fins ready to cover. Also you can see my Servo Mod
with them on the top of the wing. Back to painting, it is going to look very nice!
I will keep a set of the stock fins, and glider canopy with it. It is a very easy build and fun. Multiplex is a great company! That makes great Airplanes
