Goat Rock Dynamic Soaring

I am just starting to fly a JW60 and to learn DS. Great times. This video is just a few seconds so don't blink and miss it. It made us laugh and appreciate EPP foam.

Not quite Dynamic soaring (0 min 11 sec)

We measured wind speed at 25 -30 MPH, turbulent.

Wow! Thanks for sharing, that was great! One of those crazy moments that would be difficult to describe but video makes it clear what happened. How much does your JW weigh?

Thanks for the kind words. It was a sweet moment. I did actually regain control but was too deep in the bucket with little energy to fly back to the front. I think flying weight at that point was about 38 oz. I think the winds were 30+mph and I could have used more ballast.

Labor Day weekend I finally got to see some successful dynamic soaring at Goat Rock. Winds were maybe 15 MPH and turbulent. The front side was challenging to work, but Matt had no trouble working a DS groove on the back. Even got the Zagi (not in this video) in a tight DS groove. Now that I have seen it up close and personal I hope to have better progress. Sorry about the sound of wind blowing into camera mike. I'll work on it for future videos. But I left it in because you can also hear the Acacia sing.

Goat Rock Glider DS (0 min 58 sec)

How heavy? JW60?

Looking forward to seeing you there. I feel like I'll be making the trip often.

i have/had a 60 oz but it is close to retirement. It has gone down hard a bunch if times.

Also have a 38 oz Jw for light days.

my next jw will be 60 oz range. For Goat (and the Slot) when the wind blows, it is often 25+ and the heavier models just seem to work best for me.

where does he land the A2. I have not ds'd a moldie at Goat, not sure I could get it down in one piece.

We should meet up out there sometime when the forcast looks good. Great to see some interest! I am busy with f3f now, but looking forward to having some ds fun soon.

Last spring I flew there alone and it was blowing something fierce. I landed my moldies on the small step on the face just below the crest. Would have been nice to get some pointers from locals

Maybe next time RcCracky will come out and show me how

forecasts and landing zone

Matt used the front side, low in the bowl, to land. He hiked down while flying so he could see well enough to land safely.

You guys know about this website?

No, you're going to show me how with your Kinetic. Who wants to watch an A2 putz around when we can watch your rocket ship? I'm still saving pennies for a Kinetic. That thing makes me drool. Come down anytime. I have a cabin near my home in the redwoods (an hour and a half from Goat Rock) that you and family can stay at. May and June seem to be the best months for winds. There's a guy named Avery who I contacted via youtube and he's gone around 265 at Goat with a converted Hobbyking hotliner. I know there's way more energy to be extracted from that hill, I jut don't have the plane–yet–to do it.

Despite the microphone noise I don't think the winds were 15, they were more in the 10 range with too much of a northerly direction. 300 degree winds at a true 15 produces a massive a lift band at Goat and the Acacia can seemingly fly nearly out of sight over the ocean and still be in great lift. That day it was hard to keep the plane up on the front side.

Curdamn, anymore F3F races on the calendar? I really need to give one a go.
