Allenby Farm - History... AP

Allenby Farm

Was originally built by the Templars in the 1890s. It served as an agricultural orphanage for close to 40 years, except during World War I, when the buildings were used by the Turkish, German and British armies. British General Edmund Allenby hosted Israel's soon-to-be First President, Chaim Weizman, at Havat Allenby for their political discussions about the future of the Jewish State.

Between 1939 and 1948, the farm changed ownership multiple times before a group of Holocaust survivors established Kibbutz Buchenwald - a new community in memory of the concentration camp from which they'd escaped. The kibbutz was later renamed Netzer Sereni. The original Templar buildings were used as a school and childrens houses until 2005
