Turnigy 9XR Pro, new open source radio

Here's a spot to discuss the upcoming Turnigy 9XR Pro radio, rumored to be out by Christmas 2013. Electronics based on Cortex M3 and the well-regarded Sky9X board, with open source *9x code base.

I'm collecting information here for ease of reference:

Excellent, sounds great. I'll be looking forward to it, hope they make enough that it's not sold out for months and months though.

With Haptic and possibly Bluetooth, as well as the usual Futaba and JR ports (good for us who want to power headtracker goggles), this could be better than a Taranis. Be good to see a comparison.

As an owner of both 9XR and Taranis, I can say that it while the added capability of the 9XR Pro will be welcome, it won't make make the hardware the equal of Taranis.

That said, I fully intend to buy a 9XR Pro. But I have no illusions that it will equal the Taranis in overall feel and precision.

There is a 3rd serial port for the Bluetooth connection and a spot on the PCB to
connect to it ...ersky9x firmware already supports it..for a couple of different Bluetooth modules

It can also monitor the TX system current , and keep track of whats MAS is left in the TX battery , it will tell you when yo have reached the level you have set up.
Yes... it will talk to you , and play a audio cue that you have stored on the SD card ... such as "Transmitter Battery Low"

There is a spot for a rotary encoder connection , and current firmware support for it.

It will make a nice platform for the FPV'er to craft their own radios , with a very minimal investment and high reward ratio...

Will it replace the 9xr or will it be a more advanced version and the 9xr will still be available?

Will it be priced at the same price point as the old one or more?

Since it will cost more to make , than the basic 9XR , I would assume it will cost more.
There is no pricing available for it yet.

Ok thanks, so It won't make the 9xr obsolete.

I would expect the regular 9XR to continue to be the big seller for HK, with the Pro the one chosen by people with more advanced needs.

If they can keep the price just under $100, it will be an attractive proposition. Add an Orange DSM or FrSky module for $25-30 and $10 for a battery and you're in a range that's still significantly less than Taranis for a radio that does many of the same things (and a couple of extras), and is fully programming compatible.

We have an amazing range of choice in advanced radios for under $200, with 9XR, 9XR Pro and Taranis. It's only a few years ago that I paid that much for a JR radio on 72 that had two model memories and minimal programming.

Currently I'm enjoying a 9XR and Taranis as my prime radios. Looking forward to adding the Pro.

What about it? My 9XR works perfectly and has done for nearly a year. And you'll notice that the case molding issue was very short lived.

That stuff is sorted out, so the Pro has a mature hardware platform on which to build.

Does anyone know if the trim sticking issue with the 9x has been fixed with the newer ones or not?
