A set of horns like these line up with a CF rod with about 1mm gap. Then use a soldering iron to shrink some tube to bind the two together.

That's what I was thinking, which is why I was surprised.

Think again. Soldering iron at full heat will shrink the tube fine without any damage. A heat gun will melt the depron before it shrinks the tube enough.

We all were once. Ask me how I found out that the heat gun would melt the depron? Actually, don't bother, I'm sure you can guess And I too was very skeptical of using a soldering iron until I tried it myself.

I use a heat gun for this but it requires that all the heatshrink is applied before the linkages are in position (i.e. not attached to the airframe or capable of being shrunk without pointing the gun towards any foam). I've used soldering a iron for heatshrinking too but I don't find that method as consistent.

I use a soldering a iron to. Pointing a heat gun to EPP or Depron have never crossed my mind.
But maybe it works ok.

Nope, pointing a heat gun at foam definitely won't work, it would damage the airframe very quickly.

That was my assumption, hence my question about using the soldering iron

Which file is the full sized plans? Is it the Cut file? Does anyone know of a good tiling program or know where there is a tiled full size AEvo?
