Obama To Spend $8 Billion To Elect Obama

This is a good one. Everyone remember ObamaCare? You have to pass it before you know what's in it? Well, one thing that's in it, the cutting of funds to the Medicare Advantage program that 12 million seniors use, starts in 2013, and is going to cause a problem for Obama prior to the election because the enrollment documents come out October 1, a month before the election, and a bunch of voters are going to be upset over the higher costs, and possibly blame Obama.

So to fix this little problem that was over-looked in the rush to pass ObamaCare, he is having the HHS fund the program for another year using funds not appropriated or budgeted for such a use.

Read all about it, and shake you head at the audacity of it all. Hmmm hmmmm hmmmm ... The Chicago Way.

An $8 billion trick?
Toying with Medicare to fix elex

Obama can temporarily prop up Medicare Advantage long enough to get re-elected by exploiting an obscure bit of federal law. Under a 1967 statute, the HHS secretary can spend money without specific approval by Congress on “experiments” directly aimed at “increasing the efficiency and economy of health services.”

Past demonstration projects have studied new medical techniques or strategies aimed at improving care or reducing costs. The point is to find ways to lower the costs of Medicare by allowing medical technocrats to make efficient decisions without interference from vested interests.

Now Obama means to turn it on its head — diverting the money to a blatantly nonexperimental purpose to serve his political needs.

A Government Accounting Office report released this morning shows, quite starkly, that there simply is no experiment being conducted, just money being spent. Understandably, the GAO recommends that HHS cancel the project.

A more straight-forward report on this boondoggle. G.A.O. Calls Test Project by Medicare Costly Waste
Quote:
The G.A.O. said the project “dwarfs all other Medicare demonstrations” in its impact on the budget, but is so poorly designed that researchers could not tell whether the bonus payments led to improved care. As a result, it said, it is unlikely to “produce meaningful results.” Insurers can use the bonuses to offer extra benefits, like vision and dental care, or to lower premiums.

More than 12 million people are in Medicare Advantage plans. About one-third of them are in plans that would receive bonuses under the 2010 law. By contrast, under the demonstration program, 90 percent are in plans eligible for bonuses, the report said.

8bb to get reelected? I wish it were so. The man has spent almost 5 trillion to get reelected so 8bb is nothing.

HHS Sebelius refuses to stop the unnecessary expenditure of $8 BILLION whose sole purpose is to delay the reality of what cutting Medicare Advantage will do to millions of seniors until next year, when the wakeup call will be too late to show their displeasure over Obama's decision to gut this program to fund subsidized health insurance for others.

What a sad state of affairs when billions are spent by the government to keep an elected official in office.

The GAO has called on HHS to cancel this unprecedented multi-billion dollar program. However, when asked by Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) if the administration would follow the GAO’s recommendation, Secretary Sebelius stated she has “no intention of canceling the project.”
