Energic Build Thread.. Added speed passes on radar

Hi Guys,

I've been ready for a new project so I stopped by SUSA to see what Bob had these days. Kinda had something big in mind, but was open to anything f5b size as well. Turns out he had way too much for my indecisive self to choose from.

Shout out to Gary for spending hours answering my questions and listening to me talk to myself as I try to figure out what I wanted. He is a very patient man. Thanks Gary!

Ended up with the Energic. The fit and finish is top notch. I've already started the build and will post pics of my progress. Will report back soon.

Just posted this pic in my thread about soldering directly to the board. My solder did not flow well with whatever solder castle used, but it seems to be pretty solid. Will make sure to test the hell out of it before maiden.

The supplied servo mounts fit the MKS servo's nicely. Had to sand them a bit thinner to make the servo sit flush against the wing when mounting. A bit of grease on the servo arms makes it easier to install and remove the clevis when dry fitting.

Anyone with a Futaba 10C flying throttle on a switch? I was hoping to use my 7 ch rx and just realized the aux channel is only available on channel 6 which I need for flaps. I'm using parameter 2 ail and 2 flap. In this mode, it will only let me assign a switch to channel 6

Kit came with a nice pushrod for the elevator. Needs to be mounted very low on the servo arm to fit in the tail.

So this hole should be plenty for cooling, but it was really helpful when installing the rx and eneloops. I'm normally against using switches of any type, but I've had good luck with these in my sailplanes with eneloops. Makes it so much easier to charge.

I initially planned on using a 2s A123 1100 mah rx pack, but I was told that these MKS servo's do not like 6+V. I've read a lot of good things about MKS so I decided to go with a 4s AA eneloop pack and avoid a regulator. The eneloops pack weighs slightly more than my A123, but they are both pretty heavy compared to a small 2s lipo and regulator. I figured it wouldn't make too much difference in a plane this size.

So what do you guys use for battery stops? I ended up inserting this small carbon rod. I'll shave it flush with the fuse, but I should have asked before drilling into the fuse. There probably is a better way.

Not a whole lot of interest in this thread so I focused on finishing and getting it in the air. Please feel free to ask any questions about the build. It was very straight forward.

Getting around 5700 watts with 1512 2.5D on 10S 2200 18x23. Have about 5 flights getting more aggressive on the throttle each flight and everything stays cool including the 30C Turnigy packs. My questionable soldering job on the controller is holding up fine so far.

Got a couple speed runs on radar. My buddy had a hard time filming at the same time, but we got some good numbers. Does a solid 185-190mph level. I'll try to get a better flight video now that I'm confident she'll hold together. Got 205 mph out of a mild dive with zero flutter.

Energic High Performance Motor Glider (1 min 39 sec)
