Started work on the servos and horns. The linkage needs to be within 3mm of center of the servo... not easy!

Made 4-40 music wire linkage this afternoon, finished servo trays (too large ) and started soldering the servo harness together. Need to build courage to cut the false TE for the linkage to pass through... Petr ships the planes with the wipers and upper surface skins pre-cut a very nice touch!

I hear you. Instructions say to thread the horn, and then screw in a threaded rod... but it would constantly be screwing and unscrewing itself, which will eventually cause the plastic horn to let go. Will trouble you in the am for help.

thanks Yuri

Hey, good looking Backfire! Mine has the exact same color combination, although I wished they came with the white fuse like they have online (http://www.electro-team.net/Backfire.htm).

Your pics are informative and I'll try out your servo setup configuration. I have a Surprise XV on the way and am looking forward to see how these two F5F ships compare to each other!

Regarding the batteries, I found that the Hyperion G3 3S 3300-4200 are a good fit ( I opted for the 1509 1D 6.7).

Mine is on its way, I ordered it directly from Petr Janku the manufacturer, friendly, quick and very helpful. He sent me a picture of my model before he posted it. The dayglow red costs a little more, but I think it is worth it. The instruction manual is the most comprehensive I have seen, there can be very few questions after reading that. Download here http://www.f5b.cz/en/ . What servos have you fellows built into the wing, I have opted for the new 9.5mm servos from Hyperion (Hyperion Atlas HP-DS095-FMD 40/45 Ncm ) I have not used them before, but others in their range and they are really nice, I am curious if the wing servo is as good as the numbers say it is.

Regards

Daniel

Agreed, working on it. I think I will end up using 4-40 with l bends on each side... i.e. will have to grind the servo gear a tad.

Rich ,use 2-56 with Z bend on one side for the aelerons and 4-40 with clevis on both sides.
I dont think You will be able to bend 4-40 rod.

1.8mm hardened piano wire; but yes, 2-56 will prob avoid cutting servo

Richard,I do understand Your desire to make a "clean" wing,it is cool, but with this high aeleron/flap
horn installation ,You are begging for flutter.Look at manual page 13.
Horn hole aligned with wing surface ,but not below it.Even with wing surface horn flesh aligment and speeds we are flying here/not these kids in Europe with 3S batts/ ,flutter will be right there.
I have had this kind of problems before in my planes and had to drill out these low profiles horns from the wings and reinstall them bit higher then wing surface.
Also, there is more pressure on servo itself and most likely linkage slop.
Yuri.

Hi,
its good to make aileron and flaps horn with minimal distance from axis of flap/aileron rotation, like discribe construction manual. You can see next picture here:
http://www.rchazedla.cz/index.php?op...atni&Itemid=59 ,Petr Hulik used original horn.

Best,
Petr

That is encouraging to hear, apparently the new Graupner DES 448 servo is actually the hyperion wing servo. This european kid is going to start with 4s and then see if he is up to more.
