UMX Carbon Cub SS Repairs

Flew my CC for the first time last night and ended up breaking prop shaft and bending and creasing elevator wing. To replace prop I have to open up the plane by cutting tape that holds the two halves of the plane together and tape or glue elevator wing.

Looking for any advice tips or tricks in plane repairs.

When I replaced my prop shaft, I didn't even cut it all open. Slice the Carbon Cub decals on the sides of the cowl, then get your finger on the motor so it wont turn when you unscrew the 3 screws or when you install the new adapter.

Where did you get the new shaft from, and what's the part number?

Picked up prop shaft or prop adapter from LHS part number EFLU4167. Part numbers can be found in the supplied manual. There is also a long prop adapter available part number EFLU1168. Have not had a chance to replace, but will this weekend.

Hate to bring up an older post but my question fits right into it.

I'm onto my third Long Prop Adapter for the SS Cub after twice nosing into the ground broke them. Does anyone know of a solution to this what seems to be a weaker part of the plane? It always seems to shear at the thinnest part of the adpater. Wondering if there are alternatives to the long prop adapter since my last breakage happened only falling 6 feet after I added up instead of down compensation on the elevator/flap mix and it stalled upon takeoff, falling 6 feet into long grass and still it broke.

Any such thing as metal options or changing the configuration to avoid the long prop adapter? Otherwise I guess I'll order a bunch of long prop adapters??

Broken prop adapter

My prop adapter broke on my first flight. I noticed it broke at the end of screw that holds the prop. I went to longer screw that will extend into the thicker part of the adapter this should help

Get a prop adapter from ICU on shapeways.
Almost indestructible.

Prop adapter.

My original prop adapter also broke very easily. I replaced mine with the shorter Sbach adapter and have not had any problems. Just use the supplied spacer. Prop now has held fine. Spacing now looks more scale and not hanging out on a limb.

I second the ICU prop shafts. I broke several stock CC shafts and haven't broken a ICU prop shaft since I installed it.

CArbon cub aileron servo replacement

Crashed my CC again (3 for 3) and broke the wing just inboard of the aileron servo so the wires pulled off the servo. Tried to solder them back but must have fried the servo with the heat

Bought a new servo (spectrum SPMSA2030LO 2.3 gram linear long throw offset servo) installed it and tested the controls. the new servo is offset so that you get a small amount of up aileron and a large amount of down. The problem is the other wing seemed to be offset the other way.

In the package with the servo is a short jumper wire with a yellow female connector on one end. I think this is a servo reverser. but when I plugged it in it not only reversed the servo travel direction is appears to have changed the offset programing. I manager by playing around to get the servo on the other wing to have the same offset as the new one. Don't really understand what is happening but since both ailerons now act the same I will try flying this way. Large defection up and small deflection down on both wings.

Anyone know what is really going on here??

Looks like ICU has two different sizes of prop adapters for sale;

"Small" cm: 1.176 w x 1.176 d x 1.176 h in: 0.5 w x 0.5 d x 0.5 h $3.00

"Large" cm: 2.908 w x 2.512 d x 1.124 h in: 1.1 w x 1 d x 0.4 h $4.50

Which should I get for the Carbon Cub ?

TIA.

Pgritt, you have it incorrect, the ailerons are suppossed to have more up than down. Reverse the servo that has more down than up.
