Yes, I do but this will be a small diameter and with a steel pin it will be an issue I'm trying to avoid.

Here are what screws look like if you use the 'big' ones.

There are also some button head screws for use with allen wrenches that make for a very clean look.

Ignore the brass nut/bolt on the aileron link. The top is where it disconnects with a clevis attachment. Not pretty but I wanted some adjustment and it is less obvious at the top location.

And a pic of the complete model.

FWIW, I used the 1/6 scale PICA cowl and pants from Fiberglass Specialties. I had a diesel in it and the vacformed cowl would not take the heat.

Charlie, very nice YMF-3!

Looks like you used the K&S teardrop aluminum for your struts?

YW. It is supposed to be a YMF5

Yes, K&S streamlined for the struts. Just round Al for the aileron links, but, I flattened them in a vise.

And I flew it again yesterday. Hard to believe it is over 4 years old now.

Just spotted this thread. Arghhh. Day or 2 ago I listed on Ebay this kit in a partial built condition. Cheap. Now I hope in doesn't sell. Your discussion, Charlie, on the struts, fits right in with a posting I made that you responded to. Even if the Waco goes away, this has been a great find.

What engine size have you guys found to be the best for this size plane? I'm thinking Saito 91 or 100 and since I haven't purchased it yet I'm still open on it. Appreciate the feedback, thanks.

Mine had plenty of power with a .91 Surpass.

Mine flew on about 1/4 power when using the .90 diesel. Electric it flies well on about 600w. But it weighs 7lb. Not sure what the pica one weighs.

Additional information.

When I consulted with Bob Davis about his diesel conversions for the WACO he recommended a .75 Super Tigre as the size engine needed. But, since the .75 and .90 share the same crankcase and cylinder we decided for me to go with the .90. My goal was to fly it at a low RPM to get a better sound out of it, which it did very well. A .75 would have done the job well, but, at a higher RPM.

So, the .90 diesel was running a 16" prop (not sure of pitch at this point).

Here is a link to the test run video
