aww crap if you use dt700s, the 12in are more efficient than 11in, but only by .2% so wont make much of a difference. with 12in props very max is 2616g, (half of max thrust) and 1135g for 11in.

really sorry bout that. use 12in if you can, but you may have to use 11in for frame restictions

I am in the process of rewinding some motors and looking at the diagrams and reading the theory.

Currently the motors were wound Delta with 14 turns, but Star/Y should give me much more torque with only 8 turns. Is there some downside to star/wye/y windings or do manufacturers just presume people want RPM's in out runners?

so STAR = more torque (1.7 x delta), but less speed, more efficient, more sensitive to timing
Delta = 1.7 x more speed than star, more speed than star, smaller prop, less sensitive,

i think Y/WYE/Star would be the best for a MW as it is more efficient and the sensitivity doesn't seem to be much of an issue. marketing has a bit to do with it

those are the main points. i didnt see much else.

More torque and more amps, and this project is just not setup for that so... Delta it is. I already have one phase done, not as insane as it appeared at first.

Thank you so much but now I am confused As this is my first time building a quad from scratch, it may end up being a little overweight. What would be the best choice of motor, esc and battery that can pull max weight for under $120. I will make the frame from wood/aluminium. It will carry a small board camera and a two axis gimbal.

the dt700 with 12in will be fine. will your frame fit 12in props? should be 8+in fgrom side of center plate to motor center for 12in props.

Dt700 is a workhorse. Even on mine with 10x4.5 props and a 1300 AUW it hauls when I WOT.

Since I am making the frame myself, I can make it as large as necessary, but would this not alter the way it handles wind?

yes. bigger props + bigger frame = less wind tolerance, but bigger props + lower kv + higher voltage = more efficient and add ESCs with BLHeli/Simonk firmware and it will hep with wind (better response rate)

Awesome. Thanks for the help. I went with the D2836/8 1100kv from HK and SimonK House ESC-20AMP-NFET from witespy. Can't wait to get this built.
