The shorted wires might have been on the heli side but the battery is what was shorted. It doesn't hurt the bird to short the battery. The battery has some type of protection circuit but I'm not sure if they provide short circuit protection or not. Over charge protection is the really important one.
When the battery is plugged in my servos do make some noise, especially if I move the bird. I assume that is the servos simply responding to commands from the gyro. Nothing to worry about. As for the TX, I have the 7E which is reportedly a stripped down version of the 10. Less power, range, switches, memory but basically the same system at the core. This long thread is the best I've got for reading on the TX and flying in general http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1651066 |

I fly for about 10 minutes per battery. I think that works out to 2 minutes in the air and 8 walking over and fetching the heli off the ground after all the crashes. Basically I'm no where close to being able to keep the bird up for a whole battery.
Actually, according to my radio I go about 4 minutes on a battery. In the thread I linked to someone described a way that you can set the stopwatch in the radio to automatically start when the throttle stick is over 20%. This works out nicely as most of the time you are in the air the stick should be over 20%. Thus you can look at the radio display any time and see how long you've been flying. I've looked into binding with the V911. It's supposed to be possible with the hack firmware for the Devo radios. The hack firmware for the 10 is supposed to be stable and reversible. The firmware for the 7E is reportedly not reversible right now so I'm not messing with it. The other catch is you have to put a compatible TX modal in the radio. For my 7E that means soldering the thing in (not a task I'm worried about and I have a spare V911 TX to scavenge parts from) but I don't know about the 10. Since I'm happy with my 9116 TX with my V911 I'm not worried about it. |
