http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1595761 I know that you are as capable as them and i would like to see you doing something similar, afterall you have the contacts and knowledge to get in on the ground floor. Lets be fair, although 8 bit stuff is doing the job at the moment, its lifespan must be limited after all i thought 8 bit went out with the Spectrum and Commodore 64. Please Paul, give these guys some competition, i know you can do it Ray

I hear you! Well, believe me when I say that I would have used a 32-bit on the microWii instead of the ATMEGA32U4 if there were a (free of charge and easy to use) IDE for it. Yes, you're right when you say 'do the config stuff with a simple header file transferred via UART (or USB)' but this would lock-out all those keen developers (software guys) who supported/assisted Alex in writing the multiWii software and brought us what we all enjoy now. The main advantage of the 32-bit solution is it's computing power when it comes to IMU calculations. But, I think we all should keep an eye on the MPU-9150 DMP-engine; it will off-load a lot of IMU and filter calculation from the 8-bit, thus eliminating one of the main advantages of a 32-bit solution. The microWii is not the answer to all questions (when you think about waypoint navigation/autonomous flights), but I think it's an easy-to-use - and nearly ready-to-fly FC for beginners and enthusiasts. Rgds Joerg aBUGSworstnightmare P.S. Keep an eye on Paul's shop ... |

No need to appologize, Ray!
I was just interested if you - as an experienced MW user - do see any differences. ![]() I tuned Jussi's MiniWii for another guy the other day and i was amazed how well it flew with MW 2.0 out of the box. The microWii will just add another opportunity to the range of already existing FCs in that class. That doesn't mean, Joerg or Paul are bound to the 8bitters forever! It's just a love affair that doesn't want to end too soon.

@aBUGSnightmare,
The 32 bit port i use is open source although it was written especially for that archetecture i.e. Free Flight FF and Naze. And the guys who are developing it are talking way,way above my head so you are right it is taking it out of the hands of normal mortals and putting it in the hands of the Specialist/Geeks @kinderkram, Im still flying Jussi's shield and its as good as the day i assembled it, better because i know (more) what im doing. MW2.0 is better than its been for a long time, but i still recon MW v1.7's level mode has still to be equalled. I still find 8 bit stuff easier to handle, but i got left behind with windows for a long time because i was too stubbon to change and it was hard work catching up. I wont let that happen again. If you are good at something its not easy to move on and both Joerg and Paul are good at what they do, and they will move forwards in their own good time, but im sure that after this conversation it might come a little sooner(i live in hope) ![]() Ray

It's always fun to flash an MWii
No time for a coffee break. ![]() Amazing how Alex manages to squeeze so many functions out of 15-20k of code! I'm pretty sure the 8bit ATMels will serve their purposes for even longer. Look at the KK: many have promised its death long ago. And it's still alive&kickin. Prices dropped to 15-20$ and that's what will happen to MW entry boards with gyros&accels. On the more advanced ARM side it lacks what the ATM has more than enough: a wealth of free to use tools, tons of codes, bits & pieces and lots of developers and users who are used to it over the years. A commercial version of a professional ARM compiler comes at 1500 bux. Know what I mean?

hmmm, mine is 1650g now including battery (6000mAh 3S)
I have extra level full of connectors, large landing gear and larger ESCs...What is your flight time? I haven't gotten to it yet (much), still tuning indoors ![]() Btw what camera are you using? I tried mounting my gopro but there's nowhere to put it. I'll have to get some front-attached gimbal or a landing gear with gimbal... |
