Slope Master 2005 EPP Build DONE !

Well, Iím going to give this a whirl.

Hereís a little bit of history about the Slope Master, for those of you that donít know about it. The 1st production was made back in 1986, by a friend named Stephen Grochowsi. He owned a small shop which he called Sun Fair Aircraft designs. The SlopeMaster was his 1st design. It was an all balsa build.

There was a 2nd version that came out in 1989. That was built with balsa and some sort of foam for the wings that had cut out bays and were capped with balsa. It was a bit heavier to his standards.

The idea for this plane came from the spot where we used to fly. It was a very small slope located in Oceanside, CA called Foussat / Mesa Drive, that overlooks Oceanside Airport. There was not a whole lot of room at this site, but it was the happening flying place at that time. So, the size of the site inspired the design.

This is one of my favorite planes to bring to any slope. It is 52 in and the AUW is roughly 20 oz, depending on how it is built. It is a very acrobatic airplane and the balsa build will fly in very light winds.

Well, after three different designs and not making any money at it Steve no longer builds and closed shop a long time ago, as many other small designers did. He gave me the OK to build an EPP kit out his plans. I will be attaching pictures as I go. But, please bear with me, I am very slow at building because of time restraints and all parts are not here at this point.

This will be all EPP with carbon rods and balsa or Coro for the fins, and not sure which yet. Basically, it will be the same dimensions from the original plans.

First, we have some pics of a map of the site and original Slope Master, and what I have to work with at this point. I will get more posted tonight, time permitting or tomorrow.

Louied,
That's looking GREAT! You were right, the EPP is going to work good with this design.
Thanks for the build thread. Hey those cores look real clean, are they full span EPP?

Very cool Louied. I remember Sun Fair and the Slopemaster. Never had one myself, but I remember them as great flyers. I might recommend balsa fins, but that's probably because I really hate coro!

Droydx,

Its 2 piece wing if that what u mean? 100% EPP. I had them cut from some guy up in the Riverside or the San Bernardino area canít remember his name or the company but someone recommended him here on the groups. I am sure someone knows who I am talking about. InTheLeft I agree with you. The other idea was capping the Coro if I used it. Will post more tomorrow if possible.

Louie,
By "full span" I was wondering if you'll use the EPP as the elevons, maybe with some way of stiffining them, or if you'll add balsa elevons, like on most combat style wings. I'm guessing the later? Definitely go balsa on the fins and 3 of 'em!!!

I don't think hes doing full span epp because of the airfoil stopping right where balsa elevons or whatever is used on this plane can be placed? Just a thought..

Balsa over coro is good and strong...but unless your gonna be sluggin' around with other wings, I'm sure you won't have any problem with the balsa...unless you like to land inverted! I put balsa on the tail of my Bowman Scooter...100% better and still strong enough to handle the occasional cartwheel and random act of foamie agression from a wing.

Is that a fully symetrical airfoil?
