Sonic Modell Sbach 342 Balsa Electric ARF 48"

Hello all

I received a Sonic Modell Sbach for fathers day. I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this plane?
http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...rod_id=SNM2900

I will document the build with pics here.
I will be setting it up more as a sport flyer to begin with as I have never did any 3d flying yet.
Originally I am thinking about using a Turnigy D2836/8 1100KV Brushless Outrunner Motor on 4s.
Motor is 70g and I have an assortment of 4s 1000 to 2800mAh batteries from about 100g to 300g aprox. I'll see if it fits and if I can get it to balance with this motor. I'm sure it will fly basic pattern no problem with this set up and thrust should be around 1:1.
I thought this model was a foam over balsa model but I unpacked it last night and it is a balsa/film model.

Once I get it built and see how it flies , AUW etc and get some more stick time I'll see about getting a motor to switch over to 3d flying.

Cheers,
Paul

Instructions with kit CD pdf

Hey all,
I should have some pics up today.
The kit came with a CD with a PDF file for the instructions. it is 18 mb( to large to attach) so I'll just do a few screen shots of a couple of pages for now.
I'll add some pics of the actual model and anything of note.
Cheers,
Paul

I just noticed the manual says 1650g and Great Hobbies web page says 1191g (42oz).
I will weight up all the parts and caclulate roughly what the AUW will be. If it is close to 1650 then for sure the Turnigy D2836/8 1100KV (on 4s) will probably be to small ...
Cheers,
Paul

I quickly test fitted all the parts and all goes together very nicely.
The wing is joined by a double spar and fits nice and snugs up the last 1/4". Nice! A couple of hooks and rubber band keep the wings from separating and should be more than adequate.

I weighed up the plane with all the hardware minus radio and motor gear. Weight was 1050g.
My 28/36 motor may be a bit small but I will try to see how it fits for now.

Motor = 70g
ESC = 23g
Servos = 10g x4 = 40g
Battery 4s = aprox 100g for 1000mAh - 215g for 2200mAh
Prop = 40g(guess)

My AUW should be around 1320g w/o batt. = 1420 to 1535g.
For sure I will need more power for 3d.
I am hoping the 28/36 will be good for learning at my level of flying, perfecting basic pattern and rudder co-ordination stuff.

Cheers,
Paul

i have same plane

I have the same plane . Got it at the same time. Mine went together well . People at my club said using rubber bands are risky so I'm using zipties. I put 35 900kv on it but haven't flown it yet.

I've been away on holidays.
Did a quick check and looks like the little 28/36 will fit perfect.
Hoping to have together in next few days.
Hopefully will not be tail heavy with battery all the way forward.
Cheers

Hey guys I also have the same plane and had some serious issues with the C of G they recommended. bring the C of G forward at least 1/2" . After a very scary first flight i moved mine forward and it was fine after .
