1 or 2 esc for dual fans set up?

Hello,

To insure same RPM in a dual fans config, do I need to use 1 ESC (assume it supports the load) in a twin fans set-up?

Also, do I need counter rotating fans too?

A great many thanks!

If you run both ESCs with the same settings and have one battery, you should have the same performance.

Generally you will not notice any benefit from counter rotating fans unless you are building a 3D flier and plan on hovering in one place.

No need to have the fans running the same rpm. Especially on a twin jet like an F-15.
You would never notice any ill flight characteristics even if the rpm imbalance was upwards of 1000 rpm (or more).

Counter rotating fans are not needed.

I will add, using 1 brushless ESC with 2 motors will at best not work, at worst it will fry something.

If the motors get even slightly out of sync (and unless they are on the same shaft they will) the ESC will not have a clue what is going on.

I have built and flown at least eight (8) twin EDF planes, all powered by 70 mm fans, twin ESC's and a single battery. The total number of flights put on these planes has to be well over a thousand.

All of the ESC's were of the el cheapo, no name brand type, but always purchased in sets of two. That way, hopefully, they were as similar as possible. Both fans ran in the same direction.

The power systems worked well with no problems. The speed controls used a "Y" wire to the receiver and each had a choke coil. No modifications were made to the wiring.
