First Hobby Grade Boat

I'm thinking about getting my first hobby grade Rc boat, and have came down to several choices. Looking for opinions and advice on these choices. I already have batteries and chargers that will suit each boat on my list. I don't really know what my criteria should be but at the least I know I want a boat that does 20mph+ ,has self righting, and is at least 17 inches long. My top 2 choices are the Aquacraft Minimono and the Proboat Recoil. Next in line would be the Traxxas Blast and the Proboat Stealth Wake 23. The kyosho also seems nice.
Current choices:

For the "Fast Electric" stuff, you should check with those guys.
"Racing Boats - Electric", as that is mainly what they run.

I wasn't sure if these where considered racing boats or not. I'll ask to have my thread moved. Thank you for the advice!

As a first boat I'd suggest one of the Proboat vessels.

That was my first Ready-To-Run boat, another good choice.

They are on backorder at Atomik, but you can get them off ebay for the same price or sometimes less: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atomik-Barbw...QAAOSwiYFXHaAq

If you can spend a little more money, I'd give the hobby king inception boat a shot. It's 260$ rtr but it's 36 inches and a 50 mph top speed. If you don't want to spend that much on a boat I'd go barbwire XL for sure.

Man those both sound like great deals, but I don't know if I'll go above $170. How is the smaller version of the Barbwire? I heard it was essentially the same boat as the Recoil and it is still in my price range. I'll have to put the Inception on my Christmas list.

Hi hunterhoward just saw this thread! All good option mentioned so far. The 17" Barbwire is a great boat! It was my first rc boat and it is really fun. You could also take a look on the for sale section on this site. Can be some nice deals there.

If you can spend the extra $50, then I'd recommend the XL. I have both, and the bigger boat has a different shaped hull than the 17" boat and handles better / is more stable in the choppy stuff. I have more fun with it.

This tired 'ol video from last summer was the first time I and a friend took my new Barbwire out for a try: LINK

I just ordered one of these for my 13 yr old son. like the fact that it is about 2' long, runs on 4S, has self righting, and can be obtained RTR for <$150. Hasn't arrived yet so cannot comment on it, but there are many youtube videos out there.

I'd love to have XL, I don't think I can swing it right now since I'm trying to finish a car project lol. So I'm down to either Feilun or the Barbwire. The Barbwire is a convenient size and I already have a couple small 3s packs, but I do like the size of the Feilun and could pick a couple spare 4s packs. Bh, do you happen to know about what the top speed of the Feilun is?

Manufacturer states 55 km/h (ie 34 mph) out of the box. After watching this video I'd say that looks about right.

FT011 Run (2 min 16 sec)
