PSSA great orme April 2016

A collection from the sunday flying at Great Orme for the PSSA 30th anniversary event.

Some great planes, loved the tornado, and the bright exhausts, loked very real. The BIG U2 looked awesome, and was obviously fun to fly.
And the Silver prototype hurricane seemed to groove very nicely

Yup. I still have all of my old Silent Flight & QFI mags. I always flipped straight to the PSS section & still look through them every now & then.

I remember wishing I had the skills to build those models.
30 years on & I'm getting there.... Now I just wish I had the spare time to build I had 30 years ago.

That bloody autogyro was not fun sat stationary in the sodding slope lift whilst we try and fly around it. There are plenty of good places and times to fly that sort of machinery - at a PSSA event (imho) was not one of them.

And here is video of the latest PSS meet at the Bwlch in South Wales, 22nd May 2016.

Make a cuppa tea, recline in your favourite chair, sit back and enjoy for the next 13 minutes

Really enjoyed that Steve.

Looked to be some challenging PSS conditions at times with sink and wind direction changes to cope with. I have often wondered at what rate lift is effected by wind direction changes - I guess it depends on the slope as each is different, but maybe something like 8-10% for every 5 degrees of wind shift, so by the time you get to 50 degrees off, you are pretty much screwed?

By the way, how does one go about pronouncing Bwlch? I expect just clearing your throat would be pretty close

Bwlch = bulk

It was challenging! My BUFF landed out after gaining some usable height, same with my Phantom. We all got some flying in in the end though, so can't complain I guess

A good load of photos on here form me an Phil :

Is the proposed farming lease going to affect flying at the Orme?

Regards Ian.

Nope, the farming goes on in the walled-off area of the farm on the very top of the rock. The outside area where we fly from and where the road is, is still council-owned.

I think they have found the tenant now too, a young local lad. Good luck to him
