Glider Bash

This is my project for the holiday weekend. I just had to add a small fishing weight to the nose and she glided perfectly! I marked the cg and this weekend will start stuffing the electronics in and try to get it back to the same marks. The plan is to make it a pusher prop with elevon controls.

I got the elevons cut and hinged and the motor mount made and installed. That's it for now, had to get my college football fix! More later.

I got all of the electronics soldered up and ready to go:

2408-21-A 1400KV motor
20A EZ Flite ESC with 2amp BEC
7x6E pusher prop
11.1V 1300mAh 15C battery
HobbyKing clone Spektrum receiver

The main reason I wanted to build a cheap foamie was to test the clone receivers. It bound instantly to my DX6i and seems to work fine. Now I just need to cram everything into the fuse. The winds are blowing 30 MPH with gusts over 45 so I probably won't be maidening this thing anytime soon.

This is my first one so we'll see how it goes. You can't beat it for eight bucks for the airframe! At first I was going to cut the nose down, but I think it looks kind of cool like it is. Hope it flys!

Everything is installed, tested and balanced. I need to find a bottle or something I can use for a canopy to hide the battery. This little motor has got some kick! It blew some papers off the table from accross the room! The wind is even worse today, gusts over 50 so I guess the maiden will have to wait.

if you dare shorten your WS you may have a fun jet on your hands. LOL

i push my big lug arround ( looks almost like my avatar pic) with a TP 2409 12T & a 8x4e prop. no probs getting vertical.
i use a 3s 1350mah 30C .. 30A esc .
yours should haul too!

Some years back we used to cover similar with thin dry cleaners brown paper and PVA glue, it used to stand up to slope soaring pretty good.

I have been reading that thread. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find the Air Hog glider, this was the next best thing I could find. You guys have done some pretty cool stuff! I did leave a little room outside of the elevons in case I want to shorten the wing some more. I just want to get it in the air. The wind finally died and now it's supposed to rain

Well, it flies. Not great, but it flies. It's really twitchy and I think I've got too much motor in it. At full throttle it climbs so bad it almost wants to loop. My thrust line might be off. I could spend some time tweaking it but I really did this more for the learning experience. I think I'm going to pull the guts out of it and put them into an Aqua Cat http://modelaero.com/Merchant5/merch...T&Store_Code=M
Looks like fun flying off the snow this winter!

One of the 14gram motors as used in the HK swift would be a better match imho.
