Got the tank installed and the tank mount completed, plus it's removeable. Plenty of room for the throttle linkage to bypass the tank. Worked out better then I had hoped.

I've never encountered this before. Probably be a few days before Sullivan replies. Surely this isn't typical is it? They're Sullivan S889.

Advice? Pros--Cons?
Good news is the plane will balance. Bad news is the rcvr. & glow driver packs need to be located here to hit CG. I've never had packs under the cowl this close to an engine before. Thoughts?

No onboard glow ever. I had/have the H9 glow plug adapter in all the birds so I didn't need to get my fingers around the props. Unfortunately, the filthy things are not reliable when plugged in. I have to hold it just right to get contact to the plugin. For some reason, my .82 has quit 3 times in the air, I had fuel, no plugs in the line, fuel filter is installed and the H9 plug is new. I even installed a new plug after the 1st quit. The 3rd dead stick landing was a crash because I was to low in a high bank turn and running maybe 1/2 throttle. I decided I'd try the driver and see what happens. My other 4 Saitos don't just quit. .56, .72, .91, 1.00 unless there's no fuel.
It didn't help with CG by adding the 2nd servo to the elevator. That added 1.3oz on the tail. As the bird sits now, the glow pack and the rcvr. pack allow the plane to balance out. I'm not sure removing the extra servo would be enough to let the plane balance. The glow driver switch is 1.2oz. and is just ahead of the wing tube. The fuel dot is even further in front of the wing tube and weighs .25oz. The driver pack is 5.2oz. and located under the cowl. All told that's 7.95 oz that 'could' go and would drop the weight to 5.7lbs. I could lose more weight if I dropped both packs to 4.8v as well but I already had the 6v. I have some new Al tube coming in the mail to make a new exhaust setup. Just have to thread/bend it. Rated to +400* F. It's a week+ away. It'll be interesting to see what happens after all my confobulations.. ![]() Dan |
