Just finished putting film on the ailerons and taping them on to the JayDub.

Helluva time to find out I should have taken more wood off those triangular balsa thingies

Oh well, it's just going to have to fly now with ailerons that stick out a bit on the underwing coz of the step left where I should have sanded more off... f

It's not too late to undo the work and do it again properly.....
Those sticky out bits would be real draggy.

I can always remember the squeal that Samotages Jart would make when he hit the spoilerons. Tail would drop and it would come in at a really high angle of attack with a sweet noise.

I use spoilerons on a Windrider EPP Fox with highly tapered wings; at the tips the ailerons are almost half the chord. When I hit them in a decent breeze the wingtips flex down. Effectively it kills lift by having the tips push down while the center still pushs up. Funnily enough no elevator compensation required at all.
It looks like a bodybuilder hunching its shoulders!

I flew the Nemesis at Mt Black with Josh yesterday afternoon, frontside only. Finally I have the crow setup right and the minor repairs done. What a sweet plane. No ballast and just blasting through the wind. The harder the wind blew the faster the plane flew. I'm starting to agree with Josh that Mt Black frontside is better than Hollowback - absolutely so in a SE. Much trickier landing though (it only took me about 10 approaches to get her down).
Josh put together some really nice flights with the rebuilt Ocelot (the one that looks like a golfstick); smooth aeros and one spot landing after another. He also maidened and DSed his 2nd hand/rebuilt Destiny, very impressively.

Al's CNC machine

Al's been making lots of progress with the new CNC machine! I dropped round tonight ... definitely a case of butterflies seeing it now and realizing that this darn thing is really taking shape!

Man... I really don't want to take off the full fibre-tape hinges, then try to get the heat-film off those ailerons

I'm tempted just to finish it now as-is - do the ailerons once I bust one of 'em...

Slap it on the edge of the work bench as is, hinges down, and cover the wing trailing edge with some masking tape to protect it. Then hit the ailerons (through the covering) with a sanding block until they follow the contour of the wing. Cover the bare wood with tape or some fresh film. No more drag and hopefully it'll take longer to bust'em.

BTW. I'm too jealous to comment about the cnc mill.
