Cool
thats not a battleship, this is a battleship!!:)

Hello all, as one who has recently become afflicted with the model boat disease, a disease which for the last 40+ years has remained alive but dormant, buried under the hubris of everyday life, too busy working for a living,

well that has changed since i received some news that immediately made all the important thing unimportant , and all the unimportant things important
now my priorities have all swung 180 degrees ,....and im enjoying it.

let me show you what awakened that model boat "sleeping giant"...forgive the pun , but youll see the connection in my next line.

this weekend im going to watch these 2 ships at the local model boat clubs paddling pond as they go through their paces ..it .should be awesome!!

http://scmbc.org.au/pics_at_our_regatta_day_one.htm

http://scmbc.org.au/launch%20day.htm

,.....tell me im not the only one awestruck by the size ....i believe theyre approximately ..6 metres ..or 20 feet ...for those still using imperial measurement .

some may have seen them before , but im sure many havent....in any case the work and dedication that must have gone into these is just astounding.

cheers.

bailador: Howdy! So, are you going to build one of these beasts?

I know one thing for sure, when Cap'n Horrible Harry sees these he is going to have a heart attack and then probably try to order one from Oz!!!

no i dont think so mate, apart from now being physically being unable, id prolly go berko, with the fiddly bits and need a straight jacket.

i was looking at the Horrible Harry scenario , contacted the manufacturer for a price which was good, but when i started adding , transport to dock, shipping, handling, fees for everything, then at this end , unloading, customs, duty, taxes, quarantine , bureaucracy and kickbacks , it made the boat 300% the original factory price ,,plus the model needs a serious repaint so mickey mouse wouldnt want to sail on her .....im back to plan "B" which is to formulate plan "C"..

cheers

To miss-quote my favourite Aussie "you call them battleships,if yah caint sit inum they aint ....This is what I call a battleship, 1/24th scale,31ft." Bailador, have a search for the Yahoo Groups Manned Model Ships International and you will find a similar sized Graf Spee and various other sit-in models if you like them BIG,plus plans for 2 Victorian battleships, easy-builds. My wife says its a Freudian compensation thing, I dont understand. You can see both the Graf Spee and Invincible on youtube , the latter sailing in MacSpringer`s videos. The Victorians are to be found at www.pmbdt.co.uk and on youtube.

No, I sit in the aft hanger lift with head and shoulders above deck level but can duck down out of sight for short periods for filming or photos. See Youtube. Cctv would be easiest for getting out of sight driving position but would not be pleasant sailing.
