Mini-HowTo
Cheap NTSC/PAL Mini SD Card DVR on Ebay

I recently bought this of Ebay NTSC/PAL Mini SD Card DVR

The resolution is quite low, but for ground recording in case of a crash, i think that 40$ is an ok price, so i would recommend it if you don´t have any other ground recording. Like an insurance

However when i connected it the picture was way over exposed. Like many Ebay products it can be improved with just a little work, and in this case this can be fixed by soldering a 50 ohm resistor to the video in port. If you need a more thorough how-to guide, this can be found on my blog http://www.rccaptain.com/?page_id=221

For reference the video quality is as follows
VGA:
Resulotion - 640x480
Bitrate - 4332
FPS - 15

QVGA:
Resulotion - 320x240
Bitrate - 2348
FPS - 15

Hmm...i don´t know, i havn´t had that problem on my unit.
Another possibility is to use an AV-amplifier and connect the DVR and screen in parallell,
but the DVR would still record way to bright, so you would still be helped by the resistor-fix.

Thanks for the info.
Do you have with you any device that does bluescreen? If so, I'd appreciate if you can test if that device can remove it.

I don´t think this mod will fix the bluescreen problem. The bluescreen is
because the screen used thinks the video signal is to weak (typically
when loosing signal due to being at the end of video range).

Perhaps someone knows if an AV-amplifier will fix or minimise the
bluescreen problem?

I found one 2channel for 70 bucks on ebay ......got it in 3days ,seller in california....
640x480 and D1.....
I have it hooked to the other vidieo out and use fatsharks.
I do know that every 5 minutes or so the video freezes for a second so using it as a pass through to fly with wont work....
Great for checking gear while flying LOS ...before commiting to googles
The monitor that I have it on is a $100 8" from hobby wireless that doesnt go blue

I just shot this indoor video to show what the quality is like on the recorded video. Actually i´m pleasently surprised.
When i tried it with my 808-keychain camera and 1,2ghz vtx/rx the quality was poor (i dont know why exactly,
but i´ll look into that) but now when i filmed with my cheap surveilzone camera and 5,8ghz vtx/rx the quality was
much better.
I think the video is alright actually!

(This video is taken in QVGA mode)

Cheap DV recorder test (0 min 42 sec)

Well, the settings are VGA or QVGA. How many fps, i don't know, but it looks ok.

I don't know why the footage is so muh better with my board camera then it is with my 808-keychain. It just is! I've tried different settings but i can't seem to fix the problem.

Oh, i thought the QVGA was the better resolution, but i can see now on the file size it´s obviously not.
If i look at the properties for the files, my computer says

VGA:
Resulotion - 640x480
Bitrate - 4332
FPS - 15

QVGA:
Resulotion - 320x240
Bitrate - 2348
FPS - 15

Looks very nice I bought one similar from Foxtech

http://www.foxtechfpv.com/mini-d1-qu...sed-p-533.html

for nearly twice the price and a strange resolution and a strange video format (ASF) works pretty well though, but this looks like better resolution and a better price.

Ratboy,

thanks for sharing! I noted the 1A power requirement, which does seem rather high. Did you measure the actual current draw?

thanks

Mike

PS: Will we ever meet over Oeresund?
