I sold my original fan assy to Par 18 to help him get his Falcon into the air because he was short on time.

Of course this left my Falcon without a fan. I've been thinking about doing a glass nacelle for the 4.5" fan since it is working so well on the Falcon.

I was in Walmart the other day and there it was sitting on the shelf with a $10
price tag. It was a ready-made 4.5" fan nacelle plug. I never knew WM carried those. It was a little weird that they made it out of glass. Real glass. But for $10 I figured I'd just have to be careful with it.

Within a few hours I had made a female mold with good enough quality for me to make a couple of halfs and the next night I pulled two nacelle halfs from my mold an had them spliced together.

For some reason my camera isn't spaking to my PC right now so I don't have pics for you but I'll get that sorted out. It's gonna be slick. It's the final touch my Falcon needs to look really "finished".

Yeah, you should have checked Wally World Rodger....but mine didn`t come with a NACCA duct.

My nacelle is quite a bit smaller than yours. It`s 12" long and has a max outer dia of about 5.5".

I cleaned off my desktop the other day and I must have delieted something that makes my camera work. Gotta figure that out.

Has there been one of the turbax rotor's cut for a 100mm fan yet with numbers. I have a Haoye 4" shroud and want to cut a rotor down but if it don't work I don't want to waste a rotor. Thanks

Bill

lee, havy you run the 880 kv in a 5" fan or is it too much load? started a mirage 2000 c today from plan and it calls for a ramtec fan . i want to make the ducts soon, im thinking of making the plugs out of balsa covered with monokote . am i nuts or will it work?

I did Bill and it worked well. I used the 1100 kv. Arngeir has a 4" with the 880. I posted some numbers back in the #600's of the posts. The 880 numbers are posted after that. Scroll back and you'll find them.

If the plans were for an IC Ramtech I think the 4.5" fan would be plenty. I'm sure that a stock Haoye rotor would be way too much for the 880kv. And the Turbax rotor is too small for the 5" shroud. Go 4.5".

Balsa/monokote plugs will work fine for making intakes.

Actually my test number with the 4" fan has so far been with a 800 kv motor, but it has a 880 Turnigy installed now, I will get some test numbers posted next week. On 12S I expect something like 75-80A and 11-12lbs of thrust based on my results with the 800kv Century motor I have been using so far.

Best way is to keep the inlet area constant all the way to the fan.

OK got my PC and camera speaking again, so here are a few pics. If anyone wants to see more pics, let me know. Now that I have my camera working again, I`ll take more pics as I mount the fan and make a way to mount the unit to the Falcon.
