Help!
Choosing an FBL Unit is doing my head in!

Man alive, how on earth does one chose an FBL unit for a JR Forza with so many decent ones available for a similar price?

This is seriously mind numbing.

BeastX, Ikon, vBar, AR7200x with nothing but a few dollars in the lot it's near impossible to choose.

I bought the Spartan Vortex VX1e to go with mine and it's brilliant. I set the defaults to 325mm+ blade size and beginner, set the swash up and off she went into a reasonable hover.

Just need to tweak the tail gain as there is a slight way under acceleration but other than that will leave it as it is until I am more proficient

You can’t, as you say, too much choice with too little difference to matter!!!

Look at some of the guys on here who are flying several different units, they all are reporting minor likes and dislikes but no real winner (if there was it would be posted all over here).

It’s a bit like marriage or ordering a meal from a self-service restaurant.

You spend ages deciding what you want but when you have it you still fancy some of what your Mate chose…….

They are all so good that you really can't make a wrong decision. I know that for my skill level (or lack of same) I really can't tell a difference even between the three different brands of clones that I'm using.

The thing I like about Spartan is the owner Angelos regularly comments and offers help to members of several forums personally.

The price is very good at the moment as well for the VX1e. Will post a very short video of my 450 flying and given it is only the 4th flight I have made it is credit to the VX1e and the 450 that I can take off, for a good distance right and land again...

The only thing tipping me toward the 7200bx is the lack of required satellite rx.

As I say a short video but this is how my Forza 450 flies straight off the bench. I have not changed anything at all from when I built it and first set up the VX1e and my only prior experience is an hour or so on quads and a few hours on Heli X.

All of the above sell for $150 to $200 or so. The bill of materials for an FBL controller runs to just a few bucks, however, so there is a wide choice of clone units, such as the TGZ380 or the K-Bar for around $25 to $30. That makes the choice far easier for me - I can have five FBL controllers for the price of one.

There are some differentiators though.

For some folks, programming without a pc is important, which leads them to BeastX type units.

The iKON has a self-levelling feature, which some people value.

The VBar has long been one of the most popular controllers, and there has been an explosion in the number of clone units.

Spartan has a track record of good quality and great product support.

Many AR7200 BX were taken from Blade 300 X. My bnf 300X cost $238.95 to my door. what they do is repace FBL unit with a Robird 31 and sell AR7200 for $150.00-$175.00. HH gets $240.00 for just AR7200 BX. Reason say AR is good unit and may get best deal.

@2doggs-don't forget though that a clone it's just that. Someone has ripped off all the code developed by Mikado in the case of the kbar used it themselves.

If everyone bought clones the main manufacturers would not have the incentive to innovate. The originals cost more as the manufacturers have had to do all the R&D and develop all the software.

Also haven't Mikado stopped some of the clones from working when hooked up to the latest software?

I agree its great to have choice and some of the clones by all accounts are excellent but it is worth remembering how they came about sometimes.

Personally for £100, the support I get with the Spartan and the knowledge that if it goes wrong it'll be sorted are worth the extra.

You pays your money you takes your pick...
