New Product
Another new F-14 Tomcat at Banana Hobby from Art-Tech

Guys-
Not sure if there is already a thread on this but after searching for all of the key phrases I could think of, nothing came up. So sorry if this is a repeat!

http://www.bananahobby.com/2062.html

This is a new F-14, advertised as having 55mm fans and aparently manufactured by Art-Tech this time around.

Smaller fans, no retracts, smaller price tag... looks pretty good.

I don't own any Art-Tech products. How do you guys typically find their stock electronics?

EDIT:
Here are the specs... does anyone else think the advertised KV of the motors is too low for 55mm fans on 3s??

Wingspan: 1000mm (39.4 in)
Length: 980mm (38.6 in)

Flying Weight: 1100g (38.8 oz)
Thrust: 820g (28.9 oz)
Drive System: 2X Ducted Fan 55mm (2X Powerful 2315KV Outrunner Brushless Motors)
Servo: 5X 9g high speed micro servos and 1X 17g for sweep wings
Speed Controller: 2x 20Amp Brushless Speed Control
Battery: 11.1V 3S 2200mAh 20C Li-Polymer
Control system: 6 CH 2.4GHz Multifunctional Transmitter and Receiver
Radio Control Range: 3000 feet (1000m)

Also noticed that the ESCs are only 20A... seems like the stock power system, even if you could max out the ESCs, would be ~250W/lb which is the bare minimum for an EDF jet, IMO.

im thinking the motors are 23mm wide 15mm long, similar to the EDF motors used in the J-power 50mm jets.... which i think are 23x10mm and there was a few people that got a longer outrunner.
2315kv is an odd KV and most likely a misprint, other art tech ads show the dimensions of the motor and some ALSO list the KV of the motor.

I'm thinking about getting this cuz right now on bh you get the preorder discount and if i subtract everthing i dont need I can bring the price down to about $180 and $160 if i dont choose to have a battery. For the speed of this plane i dont see why they couldnt just charge a little more and put a pretty fast setup in it. But I was looking around hobbyking for upgrades, they have some good cheap upgrades to use which should give the plane some real performance.

These were the upgrades I was lookin at

Motor:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...kv_for_55/64mm

its says it puts out 750g of thrust and with two on those thats 1500g of thrust, with the f14 only weighing 1100g it would give it a lot more performance.

for the esc its needs to be a 40amp, so anyone of there cheap esc's on the site.

j3tman,
I like that design.

If the specs fron Banana are correct for the stockers, these Hobbyking motors should be a huge improvement. I suspect that 750g figure comes from use in a 64mm fan but you might be able to get away with 30A escs with a 55mm.

Even if hk exagerated the thrust two 600g thrust motors will work very nicely.

I have that motor, specs are spot on for use in a 64mm fan.

remember, your stock battery space is for a 2200 3 cell, and you looking at a combo that can potentiall pull 60-80 amps, thats less than a 3 minute flight full thottle, as well as a lot of stress on a 2200mah pack.

this power for amp ratio is what ive been fighting on my mig29 for some time now.

Only time will tell how much battery room this thing has but I'm guessing it's not much.

I'm finding that so long as my jets are reasonably quick and sound good, I don't really care that much if they're the fastest thing at the field. As we all know, EDFs aren't the most efficient drive systems anyway.

So if this F-14 flies nicely on stock power, climbs out at a relatively steep agle....and flies faster with the wings pulled back....I'll pick one up.

Will Hobby Lobby also have this plane? In the past I have bought Art Tech planes from them, and they have always been good.

Notice on the BH website they list the range at 3000 feet but in the video it states 400m.

Well right now I'm in the process of thinking about buying this right now, the main thing thats convincing me to buy this is BH's pre-order discount. I would get it with out radio, and charger so it brings me down to $180, I just need something to get me to buy it right now cuz if I wait i won't get the pre-order discount what do you guys think?

J3tman,

That's the gamble you take with a pre-order... $30 off is the advantage, but the gamble is that you don't know much more about the product other than what's listed, and you have no guarantee when you'll get it. The ship date is just an estimate. Note that Nitrolpanes and BH's ship estimates have a difference of a month!

I ordered the Freewing F-16 with 360 thrust vectoring from BH on a pre-order. They had the BEST price on it, but the problem was that they never ended up carrying it and I had to go through a bit of a hassle to obtain information on what the problem was and get a refund. I was offered a free upgrade to the LX F-16, but it didn't interest me.

I'm probably going to hold off on a purchase until I see what the reviews reveal about this model. If I get it, which I probably will unless there's a major issue with it, I will get the Tomcatter scheme that Nitroplanes is going to carry.
