CanardRingWingBiplane

For my next project I planned to experiment a little with some concepts that promise high (aerodynamic) efficiency with compact dimensions.
My thoughts finally converged to a Canard-RingWing-Biplane with integrated end-plates/vertical stabilizers.

Has enyone else built and flown such a plane before (model or real). I'm prety sure someone already did. I would apreciate any comments.

Attached is the hand made 3-view I threw last night on the paper. Will start the CAD work and building soon....

Looks like, what is it called - Boomerang or Crossbow? You can buy a kit of it. Of course, that's not nearly as fun as building your own.

Chara,

Do a search for the "Ligeti Stratos" or "Stratos". Its is similar to your design.

Here is one site of many:

Looks kinda like the Stratos that foamfly was looking at kitting.

I think Dan was saying that the hardest part was getting the instance of the wings just right???

Great looking plane Kosh.

Looks like a fun project. You're really coming up with some neat designs.

By the way, I'm working on a twin inspired by your twin boom plane - I wanted to build something like it, but I wanted elevons so I ended up with an idea for a canard that pretty much looks like your plane flying backwards! I just got the foam cut out tonight. I'll post some pictures when it's done.

Thanks for the replies.
And once again I realized, there is nothing that someone else did not already try before :-) The "stratos" is looking really cool.

First parts of my plane are now cut. I stayed more or less with the original design since I saw more advantages in a pull configuration rather than a pusher. The prop stream will add extra canard authority for some very low speed maneuers and fly-byes, I hope.

Specs: Wing span and length are around 60cm (~2ft). The AUW may hit 400g (14oz). Pretty much for a foamy but the large wing area keeps wing loading low.
Motor: Typhoon outrunner on 3s lipo (1350mAh) which hopefully will give some 650g of thrust with a 8x4,5 prop.

will put some pics in if anyone is interested.

@ shakysticks:
Sounds pretty cool!!! I'd love to see your creation! Looking forward to the pics!!!

He didn't finish the Stratos. See the above thread. The Spaghetti Strateaux is a little differnet.

I think this is cooler than the Stratos. Hope it flies as well as it looks.
