RITA Creature From The Black Lagoon Boat Build Log

Alright I reckon Ill try something that I havnt seen done yet.Im gonna build the RITA from The Creature From The Black Lagoon.Ive had this old 36" boat hull sitting around forever and didnt know what to do with it.So while it may not be perfect,Im gonna transform it into the RITA.Below is some pics of the hull.It may be a couple weeks before any new updates as I have to wait for the wood to arrive.Just got all the fittings today though. Will post pics of those later on..I searched the net over and over and found NOTHING on the Rita.I guesstimate its about 50' long. When done it'll even have a small in scale creature lurking about the decks

Cool . I've thought about that boat many times, wondered why nobody's tackled it. I'm watching . Where do you hail from?

Yes.I always a bit shocked that nobody (to my knowledge) has ever done it.Upon researching it I was hoping to find lots of info on the old slab, but found nothing.Just a few pics that are on the blu ray.So if anyones got any info, feel free to share.Im all ears. The movie is a good source for the overall appearance.I guess my biggest challenge will be what color to make it??????

From the pictures that KMOT had in the other thread the hull of the RITA looks closer to the hull of the BRISTOL BAY by AQUACRAFT.

Still on my list of "One Days"! But at the slow rate I build I may have to live vicariously through this thread.

Check out http://www.scifimoviezone.com/scifi50s54b.shtml for interesting back story on the movie - and a few shots of Rita.

Yes.This hull was not made with the Rita in mind.It was just built from a set of plans I bought years ago and the hull just sat around.Still,I think it will serve its purpose in the end.Ive actually transformed quite a few hulls that werent into what I was after. So we'll see

Thanks for link Rmay

Couple of photos, and a pre-production sketch.
